I don't know if it's just me but I really really miss my dog when i'm in work or out at night or not with him for a while and can't wait to get home to him. I know dogs have seperation anxiety but I think I have got it! is anyone else like this? He even sleeps with me just so I know he is ok and close to me.

Labmad, I know exactly how you feel. Mr B comes most places with me. He helped me choose a new car, he also comes with me if I have to pick anyone up from the airport. I sometimes wish he could answer the phone so I could ask him how he is when Im out.

so I'm not alone! pheww! my H comes shopping with me and to Tescos and to put petrol in my car. If only I could take him to work!

Please Please dont leave him on his own. In Edinburgh we have had two episodes of dogs being taken from supermarkets 1 of the dogs was let loose on the motorway.
Take care Jean

Oh jean no - I never leave him on his own. He is always in the car with someone else or locked in whilst I get petrol. I would never do that! my god I wouldn't be writing about anxiety away from him if I left him on his own on my own accord anyway!

I'm just so upset at whats going on here I can't believe what they are doing I please don't take my post personally labmad I mean it in general & maybe I better be quiet before a war breaks out here sorry

No offence taken Jean. It's horrible what some people will do...and for what???!! do these people actually get pleasure from letting a dog run free. Anyway back to my post I think before it turns into a criminal debate! Take care Jean

Sounds quite normal to me! if i go for a night out i cant wait to get home to the dogs!
im lucky that flynn comes into work with me. this was so he couldnt get up to any mischief at home with his dodgey hips!-he dosent realise hes got dodgey hips!!!!i manage a photo lab & shop & all my dogs pics are all over the walls-so that i dont miss the girls too much! its lovely because my customers bring their dogs in to see me & new puppies! flynn gets people in just to see him-hes a very soppy collie! & they buy pictures of the dogs aswell! i think everybody should be allowed to take their dog to work!

Oh sorry Emma. I was gonna say what a coincidence it would be because i'm emma too and work in one.

You're not the only one who misses your dog. I would love to have a job where I could take my dogs, the way I feel at the moment I may be with them more often!!

Rescue Remedy?? Hubby can't understand why I'm not jumping for joy because he's booked 3 nights in New York, then a fortnight in Orlando with our 6 year old and our 8 year old sons........ I'd really rather be at home with the dogs than standing around a pile of baggage because I'm the only wimpy one who won't go on the scarey rides :( I hate going on holiday every year and having to leave the dogs behind ('cos we can't 'do all the things 'we' want to do with the dogs in tow'.......) I end up speaking to every dog owner I bump into to make up for it.......

Emma
Glad you are going to sort things out ;)

I am due to go back to work after being off for a year off sick and on maternity leave.
I have now got to cope with leaving my 4X4 legged chocolate girls at home alone but I have got now an A1 dog sitter/walker who is coming during the day to see them and take them for walks and give them cuddles and lots of fuss, she is so good :D.Then I have Indigo my 6 month old baby girl who is now in full time nursery who is being looked after so well :D
I will miss them so much BUT I have made sure that they have the best possible care and the time I am with them will be quality so that I feel is what counts :)

right i will show that post to the partner here then and bring my mad lab in.
I'm glad its not just me either. When we went to spain last year we caught an earlier flight home we missed Jazz so much. :D :D
Michelle :)
I miss mine that much I'm giving up a well paid, secure job to work mainly from home so that I can pop in and out all day as I please, and my new pup is coming most places with me:D Sandra.
Whenever i go out in the evening i think about my dog a lot and miss her, and the same if we go away without her, for example to my sister's wedding.
I have a very good place for her to go now, with a Dobe to play with, and it worked out so well last time that i think i shall feel much happier leaving her for the odd weekend, (VERY occasional though!!!) as she genuinely seems to enjoy herself. The person she stays with she has known since puppyhood too, and does things my way, so it all helps. But i can't bear the thought of leaving her for a proper, long holiday......

Wow I really am not alone then! Michelle you caught a plane home from your hols cos you missed your dog so much now that's having it bad! he he. Oh no I am thinking of going on holiday this year - didn't go last year because I had only bought my dog in March but I don't know if I will cope! I will be putting pictures up of him at the side of my bed! I'm looking forward to going but at the same time dreading leaving my H cos I know I will be pining for him all week!

When my ex took me to Spain for my 30th I had to leave Bradley in kennels. I was quite miserable without him. His mum called me a pathetic little girl.

I can take my dogs to work with me, which I do on the odd occasion. There are several problems inherent in that, one is that everyone else takes their dog too (well several people anyway) and it means nobody gets any work done. Secondly is that mine can hear the pheasants in the woods and watch the ducks on the water. If I let them out they make a B line for the water and then spend the rest of the day stinking! They don't settle as it's too much fun, people to wag tails at, things to run after, etc.
I take my boy when my bitch is in season, but he doesn't settle as he just seems to want to get home!! I would much prefer to be out walking with them rather than inside working so I get distracted too easily and don't work properly!
I wish I could take mine with me to work but I do food industry stuff. Even worse I had to go to a meeting after hours last night - left home 7:00 am and didn't get back 'til 11:00 pm. My wife said my boy (5 year old dalmatian) had been crying for me all evening - I felt so guilty!

Isn't lovely though when you go home and they greet you. My dog knows what time I usually come home and will sit in the window at 6pm on the dot waiting for me. Then when I come home I get the biggest kiss ever from him and he wont let me out of his sight for the rest of the evening.

I'm the same. I miss my doggie SO much when I'm away from her.
My partner keeps talking about us going abroad for a holiday for a couple of weeks this summer and I can't bear the thought of me being away from her that long!

We had our first (and last) Molly-free weekend a few weeks ago. I didn't sleep a wink I missed her so much. She was having a ball, though, with her friend Fudge, not like her neurotic mum.

I agree, I'm going on holiday for a fortnight in August abroad and cannot stand the thought of someone looking after my dog cos I know they won't do it right! (or that's what I care to believe) I think it's more I cannot stand the thought of someone being able to look after him as well as me! I think he will miss me and pine (sp?) for me for the fortnight and not have fun without me, deep down I know he will be fine. My daughter needs some dental work doing and I'm thinking of cancelling the holiday and letting her have it done private to save her going on NHS list and then she can get treatment immediately and I don't have to go on holiday and can alter holiday to take the dog to a caravan in England owned by in-laws. I booked the holiday with friends before we got pup.. oh how I wish we never, maybe I could leave him when he's older but he'll be 11 mths when we go and just when you think you can't love him anymore as I'm bursting with pride for him, I wake the next day and find him even more irresistable. I can sometimes fill up looking at him. This may sound sad and I don't tell everyone this but it's true
I am so glad i am not the only one like this! At my age (early twenties, 3rd year uni student) i am expected to spend half my life down the pub, or clubbing the night away, but i just end up missing the girls! They are the main reason that i still live at home, rather than moving into halls. I much prefer a night in with the dogs (and CD), or going to training or agility with them. People must think i'm so sad, but its nice to 'speak' to people who understand! Craigles, i know exactly how you feel, i cannot believe how much love you can feel for them.
I can't take my dogs to work with me, and I love getting home to them. We don't go abroad as we would miss them too much, so take them with us on holiday. I've been off work this week, and it's been so lovely to be able to take them for longer walks and just having them around. Some non-doggy people might think we're sad, but my dogs are a huge part of my life and I want to be with them as much as possible. They give unconditional love and bring me so much joy.
Lorna

Do other people book their holidays according to their dog's preferences rather than their own? I am going to Cornwall next month and chose somewhere near to beaches and woods as Molly is very fond of both. I couldn't care less where I go on holiday as long as I'm with her. If she is having a good time, that's all the enjoyment I need.

I would rather go to a nice UK location where my dog would be welcome than to soak up the sun with my partner at some exotic resort! It is amazing how much you become attached to them and love them more than anything. I am 27 and I would eather stay in with my H or go training every night with him that go out with my mates. I spend most of my night out texting my mum asking if he is ok anyway! You should see my mobile bill - it's extortionate!

Ditto - I'm 28 and my ideal evening is curled up with Molly on the sofa. On the rare occassions my partner and I go out for the evening, we just end up missing her.

IM 28 too and love nothing more than a night in with Tally, (we have lots of puppy cuddles!) I sooo wish I could take her to work. Lucky really as hubby misses her just as much, he went to china for a week a while ago and took a piccy of her with him!!..think he missed her more than he missed me and we have only been married for 6 months!!..really not sure on holidays..i usually love going to tropical places..but cant imagine time off work without Tally!! we are a sad lot!
The only trouble is that i have to find a future partner that will accept my dogs and my doggie obsessions, and i have a feeling this isn't going to be easy. Did any of you have dogs before you got married?

My partner is as crazy about dogs as I am. I couldn't be with someone who didn't want a dog. In fact one of the (many) reasons I split up with my previous boyfriend was that he didn't like dogs and wouldn't have let me have one, so I couldn't see us having a future together. I guess the way I feel about being able to have a dog is the way other (probably more normal) women feel about having children.

I know what you mean I'm 32 and still single. Used to be in Pomeranian's and there wasn't much chance finding a man at shows with that breed :d Now I've got gundogs and I'm still single!! Don't know whether a man would want a woman with 4 dogs and another on its way.
ANYONE OUT THERE ??? :d :d :d

There must be guys out there who would see it as a bonus. There is a guy I bump into regularly when I walk Molly who has a baby and a lovely golden retriever. He told me that he got the dog because his wife was starting to have ideas about having another child and he only wanted one. He thought there was no way his wife would want two infants and a puppy in the house, and he was right! Not the ideal reason for getting a dog, perhaps, but just goes to show that dogs are preferable to kids for some men... After all, you can take them to the pub...

It is so good to hear that there I am not mad!! I have given up work to spend more time with my boys (labs, 7 months and 3yrs), just about to start COAPE course to learn more about dogs behaviour. Last year got married and my dog Oscar was guest of honour at the wedding, not sure who is smiling the most in the photos! We went to Scotland for our honeymoon - he loved it! We only go on holiday where the dogs can go. If I go out and leave the boys (incidently they are absolutely fine on their own for a couple of hours) I always rush to get back and panic if I am held up. Those of you who are looking for a doggy husband, they are out there! My husband had never owned a dog until he met me and my boys. Now he is fantastic with them and feels like I do. There are so many of you that feel this way about your dogs... are any of you in Cornwall or nearby? Would be great to meet some new friends. I am 25 by the way.
