Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Beware of the DOG

Hi!
Does anyone know if I  am legally responsible for damages if my dog attacks a tresspasser (i.e. Burglar) on my property? Even if I had a Beware of the Dog sign on my gate/door!
Hasn't happened yet but I'd just like to know how the law interpretes this. THANKS

With a beware of the dogs sign in a court of law it could be said that you are saying that you have a dog that may bite.  If you have a be AWARE of the dog you are just saying that you have a dog

Does not make any difference what signs you put up you are responsible for any damage or injury you dog does.

Legally if you have a sign with beware of the dog on it you are stating that your dog is dangerous & pre admitting guilt

The correct signs should state do not enter dogs running free that way you are telling people NOT to enter & warning them that there are dogs. If they enter without permission they are trepassing & committing a criminal offence.

This does NOT apply to people who have a legal right to enter like the meter reader, etc

I have a six foot wall around my prroperty where the dogs are & my side gates are padlocked shut with warning notices on the gates & walls

Think we have been through all this before and someone with legal connections said there is not case that says a sign would be held against you what ever it says. Try doing a search on Dog Signs.
