Barney is nearly six months old now.  Whenever he was naughty he was taken into the kitchen and left on his own for 5 mins (the kitchen has a glass door he could always see into the living room).  When he was let out of the kitchen he was always much calmer and would settle down with us, it always worked very well.  Until now.  He has decided it is fun to be alone in the kitchen, he has chewed the kitchen rug, tipped over the rubbish bin and his latest thing is tipping over his food bowl turning it upside down and putting his front paws on it and he can skate across the tiles - try keeping a straight face :D  So he was moved into the bathroom, but that's just as much fun, shredding toilet paper and this morning chewing the toilet brush bristles (YUCK!).  What should I do now to let him know that he has done something that isn't allowed????  Help!
Thanks.
Jax :)

Just teach him what you DO want and deny him the opportunity to do what you don't. ;)

Have you thought of crating him?

If he's naughty while he is with you it is surely easier to tell him 'NO' or divert his attention onto something else. He is still a baby and will look to you for guidance. I wouldn't let him get away with things you don't want him to, but you have to make the rules. Not him.

He has no idea that he is being punished, how can he. You must teach him what he cannot and can do - retrievers are great chewers and left alone and bored will chew anything without knowing he is being naughty.
