read the post about white dobermanns, very interesting, i'd never heard of them, so you learn something new every day! would love to know more about red rottweilers please, if someone could tell me more about them, breeders etc, especially if the lady who said she owned one could perhaps tell me a bit more?

are there many in the country?

im a rottie owner and would like to know more as i thought they only came in one colour variety!

There is only one correct colour (or pattern of colours) for Rotts. Black & Tan (light or dark tan). Anyone deliberately breeding for other colours is not doing the breed any favours.  There are far more important considerations for the breed - type, temperament, health etc. If one turns up in a litter, it should be sold as a pet at a far cheaper price & not be bred from. Anyone selling these odd colours at inflated prices is just interested in making money out of gullible purchasers.

There is a lady at the moment that has a brown rottie and she did have it in the show ring i thought it was just the light on the rotties coat, but no it was a chocolate colour and someone did point it out to her,but i did not hear what was said.

Hi I am the one that owns a Red. These are a complete throw back, in fact it is thought that these dogs may be sterile but I dont know.  Red came from a normal breeder who ended up with two in her litter.  The bitch had been bred before and she had used the sire before with a different bitch.  In the litter there was Red and his sister along side of her "normal" pups. She did not breed to get any red ones and has not used her bitch for anymore litters. He is just a freak I suppose but dont tell my hubby that as Red is his baby. Saying all this though people frown on long coated rotties too and those are beautiful dogs in their own rights.

I did not even know that you could get reds in rotties until i saw one in the ring, and i know a lot of people around the ring were complaining, but as i have only been in rotties over 2 years i was not sure what all the fuss was about, the same thing can be said about white shepherds, they are allowed to be shown in some parts of the continant but not in this country.
I have a long haired rottie that comes to ringcraft i don't turn him away because he has long hair, he is being trained to enter companion shows, and generally be socialised
i wonder what the people will say about rotties with tales there is a beautifull one in the show ring at the moment but a lot of people don't like it because of the tail,
personally i don't see the problem with tails, colours, etc but everybody has their own opinions.

Hippychick
You can show a white GSD or a red Rott or a long coated Akita. There's not much point tho' because the dogs won't win as they do not conform to their breed standard. Since the whole point of showing is to find the dog that comes closest to the standard, these dogs so obviously do not conform!

you are not allowed to show a white gsd in a kc event, you can show them in companion classes,or go to the one of the white and long coated gsd fun days.
The kc does not see white gsd as a colour even though they reg them they are not allowed to be shown.

You are if it is KC registered.

To explain further, the KC standard is written by the breed clubs and is the written down picture of what the perfect dog of that breed would look like. Now there is on such think as the prefect dog, so all dogs in the ring will have a fault of some kind, in the case of GSD's being white is just a breed fault and it does not disqualify. In fact, in the UK there is no fault that stops a dog being shown except the dog being aggressive toward the judge or another person, so even if you have a 5 legged, green GSD, you can still show it if it is KC registered.

Actually, the breed standards are produced by the KC, in consultation with breed clubs, the KC owns the copyright & only breed clubs are allowed to reproduce them without permission.
Jackie is right - you can show a 3 legged one-eyed dog as long as it is KC Reg.

You may be right, but as I understand it a breed standard is put forward by the breed clubs and the KC amends and approves or not as the case may be. It is only when the clubs refuse to put something forward (as some did in the un-docked tail addition) that the KC produces the whole or a part of the standard without the breed clubs.

Agree the standard is published by the KC and the publication then becomes their property.

They may look beauties (not my opinion) but did you actually read what it says about their breeding?
Anyone considering getting one should read it & take notice.

As far as I know there arn't any breeders in the UK who deliberately breed 'Reds', they only get them by accident.  Its only the USA that are mad enough to deliberately breed them.  I do know someone who breeds long haired Rotts though and even though they look gorgeous I certainly dont agree with it.

I read what they said about their breeding and personally think they are using scare tactics. It doesn't matter about colour (or indeed breed) if you inbreed constantly without thought you are going to get problems!

I did read the part about the breeding, I just feel sorry for the dogs. But i do find them nice looking dogs, its just a shame that they have been so badly bred to get them, and have to suffer with any problems and illnesses due to the in-breeding.
