Topic Dog Boards / General / Garlic Breath!!

I am currently getting a new kitchen fitted so everything is everywhere.  My lovely dog has just eaten two whole garlics.  He is absolutely stinking and is in the process of trying to get the rest.  I thought with the smell and taste he would stay clear but will need to watch him he obviously enjoys it.  It always smells worse on someone else reminds me of drunken nights when you can't remember eating it in the first place.

Do you mean two whole garlic BULBS as opposed to cloves?  Please watch your dog carefully, overdosing on garlic could be potentially dangerous.  A clove a day for dogs is fine but no more.

Didn't realise garlic was dangerous thanks for that.  He managed to eat 1 whole bulb and started chewing the other 1 but that was just broken up he seems ok but keep an eye on him anyway.

Shouldn't have much of a problem with fleas then:-)

Garlic goes down very well in our house to combat fleas.  I didn't realise garlic was potentially dangerous either.  You don' half learn some things on this forum.

Obviously anything in sufficient excess is toxic (even water) however garlic belongs to the same family as onion which MAY cause haemolytic anaemia if eaten (so don't feed onions); garlic is ok in small doses.
