Some of you will remember that I looked after a couple of old aged mares for a neighbour, and one had to be pts last year...Annie...leaving her lifelong companion...the chestnut witch? :)

Well, the aforementioned chesnut witch is now a total darling. She is 100% catchable, good for the farrier, getting fitter, and takes half a polo out of my fingers very very gently (we don't have to feed on the flat of our hands here ;) ). Even better, she now gets ridden out twice a week by my friend and is as good as gold. So much so that Mollie is going to be going out on her on a lead rein with me and Josh.

Anyway, I have managed to persuade her "owner" (and I use the term loosely) to sell her to me, so now she is all mine - meaning that I don't have to worry about what happens to her because she will be with me forever. Considering this is the pony that reared up at anyone who went near her and wasn't caught for years, I am really really happy. Even the farrier asked if she had been drugged :D

Even better, the equine dentist came the other day, and she is actually only 18 (I was told 26!)! So years ahead of her, and she's a full bred arab to boot. And, I only paid for her tack :) Even though I bought her a new bridle she had been ridden in her old one with the bit in the wrong way round - and they wonder why she was a loony

So now I have my sights set on a 24 year old ex-racehorse who has had a terrible life and is in a bad way - another mare - who would come here to retire :) I'll keep you posted.

I'm thrilled for you Chloe! You'll give her a fantasic life, being looked after as she deserves and having a purpose in life. Good on you!
:)

Apparently she is a lovely girl who is very very thin, havng not been fed over winter and left out unrugged. You could play a tune on her ribs....but even so, she's nice natured and friendly and likes a hack up the road. She would be good here to keep Shah company if I want to take Josh out alone (she gets very upset) and we have plenty of grazing. I think I'll go see her next week and take it from there :)

:D Glad it worked out for you and the horses :)

I was just reading in the paper about the new compulsory 'Passport' for horses. Have you heard anything about it? Apparently every single horse in the country is going to have to be IDed ... by order of Brussels
- By Carla Date 02.02.04 18:03 UTC
Yeah. They have just delayed the deadline for applications... although now I believe we need a vet to complete the "identification sheet"

Every horse, pony, donkey has to have a passport... cheapest is abotu 12quid from the Pleasure Horse Society...going up to about £25.

Well done Chloe, shame there aren't more people like you in this world.

Hi there,

Just shows you what time, patience and REAL love will do! Well done and good luck for the future with your equine friends.

Oh Chloe, I know the mare is very lucky to have landed such a great home, but you are lucky too, to have a pure bred Arab!! I always loved Arabians and used to collect scrapbooks of info on them. Do you have any idea as to her breeding? :)

I used to have two Arab stallions when I lived abroad :D

I particularly love the very dry Egyptian look :)

Hi - no, no idea to her breeding. All I know is that she has been passed from pillar to post and has a terrible reputation with the vet for having to be twitched to even get near her... thats all changed now though :D

She's gorgeous though - I love her to bits.

YOu must have the right knack with her :) ;) Arabs are usually very quiet to handle unless they are upset - spirited but gentle. Did you do anything specific to gain her trust Chloe? :)

I'm so pleased for you and her!

Hope your acreage is as big as your heart Chloe. You have the start of an Elderly Equine Care Home there. :)

Lol Lorelei, I was going to say the same. Good for you though Chloe. :)   By the way, how is Josh going?

After watching Faking It last night, I was really tempted to have a go at Polo. I've played Polocrosse as a kid but never the real thing. Every now and again I do have these urges to rediscover the horsey world <sigh>.

Tohme, are you a horsey person as well then?

Jo :)

Joshy is laaarverly. I just love him to bits - he is such a good boy. He and Shah-ron spend ages grooming each other and flirting  and he just loves going out on hacks with her, he gets all excited....bless.

He is looking very "George Clooney" at the moment with living out, all hairy and rugged. I am taking Mollie out on Shah on Saturday and my friend is coming to ride Shah on Sunday...so a nice horsey weekend to look forward to :)

Lol, actually, Josh being an ID, I can see him being a bit of a George C. He sounds like a lovely chap. :)
