We are going on holiday in September and I have started looking for good kennels.  I mentioned this to my sister and she said she would take bailey for the 2 weeks.  I don't know what to do because I'm at home all day so he is used to someone being there and she works full-time so he will be alone she also stays on a main road and he has a tendancy to try and escape.  It was nice to offer but I think he would be better in kennels. Where do you think he would be most happy?  I'm in the Edinburgh area so if anyone knows of any good kennels let me know.

If you are going to be worrying about him staying there for all your holiday then he would be better off in kennels I think .

We put our dog in kennels when we go away - it does make you feel guilty but at least you know they are safe and well looked after. Make sure you visit a few kennels before you choose - you'll be amazed at the difference between the bad and the good ones. It's good to be thinking about it now as the good ones get booked up early.
Our boy seems to enjoy it when he goes. They have a big enclosed field in the middle where they let lots of dogs out to play together.

I had the same problem last year, my sister said she would have them, but I know she works full time and with two young children can be a bit pre-occupied and scatty.

I decided to put them into kennels for my piece of mind more than anything, I knew they would rather be at my sisters, but I would have worried incase they had got out and had an accident.

I don't regret this, they were looked after well and on their second visit they both pulled the kennel hand to get to the kennels. (To think I spoiled my holiday thinking they would miss me :()

Hi a friend of mine used the kennels at Ingleston (I forget the name sorry) she used them a couple of times and found them to be great her words were the kennel maids were filthy and the kennels were spotless the people that ran it remembered her dogs needs - she had an elderly dog and a young hooligan who were both catered for very well and both dogs were happy there.

Hi there, my brother used a kennel with his at the time 8month old lab it was the first and last time. when he left him he was told that they were all walked at least twicw a day and had lots of interaction. when he colleced Ollie it was obvious he was very distressed and had to be totally house trained all over again. he now uses a dog sitting company where he vets the house of the person who he leaves Ollies with while they are away. it costs about £6 per day you supply their food they have someone home all day and have a playmate as most sitters take up to three dogs at a time. Ollie loves to go as he gets plenty of attention with someone who's home all day and loves having a playmate.
We now have a dog of our own and i personally would never use kennels but would prefer to vet a house of someone who is willing to let my dog into their home.

Hi, I had Copper at the Paw Prints down at Dolphinton near Biggar.  I thought it was a great place.  I've also used the one at Rosewell although don't know really if I would put him back in there.  My mum used a place down at Pencaitland and said it was fantastic and her dog loved it (Copper hates them all).  Also I believe the Spinney at Bathgate is very well thought of although I haven't used it.  Note, Cop's has had kennel cough after every visit to any kennel so a vacc might be in order.

I use kennels because I know they are going to be safe and cared for and then no one has the responsibility if there's any kind of incident.  And if there's an incident in the kennels then they are insured.  Using friends/family, often they can't get back in time or something crops up etc etc and it upsets the dogs routine.  If you use another kennel please let me know cos quite often they are booked up and I have to take whatever is going.

The one I mentioned is called Ingliston Kennels and Cattery I haven't used them myself but my friend spoke highly of them, it's the one near the entrance to the Royal Highland Show ground.
