What are you all doing Vaccination wise at the moment?
theres so much new research been done & so many different opinions! its all very confusing for me!!!!

I'm doing exactly the same as I always have done. They all have annual boosters, as all my dogs have for the past 30 years, with no ill-effects.

At the moment so am i! to scared not to! but dont want to do it if its unnesscary! does any one blood test?

My boy was overdue for his booster and I wasn't particularly worried having decided this will be the last year I have him done.  Guess what, the vet charges more if you are more than 6 weeks late for them!!!!

This has made up my mind that I won't worry after this year now he is 6.

I only gave Bess puppy vacs, no boosters. My last one only had them too but we don't mix with a lot of other dogs (shows or use kennels etc.)  which I think has to be taken into consideration. :)

Puppy vaccs only in my house, no boosters. Mine mix with other dogs and wildlife all the time, so their immune systems are being challenged in a normal way therefor no need in my view, for injected reminders. I have done things this way since 1981.

Puppy vacs only in my house too. Have followed my dads lead on this one, non of our familly dogs (over 50 years worth) have ever had boosters.

I have always stopped giving boosters at age 7 on the advice of my old vet years ago.

mine are done at 16 months apart,the vac last up  two years.then aftre 7 no more.

I have the puppy jabs, the first booster (in case the puppy omnes didn't take properly due to maternal naubodies or whatever) then every three years after that.

In USA the Vaccine protocols for other than Rabies are every 3 years now, after a study found thast this was quite enough.

I do have to alter this if I am taking the dogs to a show abroad where they might require proof of innoculations of less than a year before.

Now I'm worried. We have a five year old dalmatian who is due for his boosters soon. Is there a potential problem with giving boosters each year (he suffers no obvious effect apart being quiet for a few hours after)? Isn't it more of a risk not to have him vaccinated?

None of my dalmatians seem to have suffered adversely from being boostered every year. My current oldest is 11 and she has just had her annual booster. I did however not booster my last old girl, but she was 15 at the time - and she had been boostered annually until then.

Mine are given puppy jabs then every 18 months. However I am more concerned than ever that we should leave a bigger gap. The vet is quite happy to leave them 18 months apart.

Just out of curiosity Nutkin, does your vet charge more than "normal" when you leave a bigger gap?  Mine does!!

I went to a seminar where a rep from one of the vaccine companies was talking on vacination.  this point was brought up, and the fact that some vets insisted on a full course of two sets of jabs if they were later than a year.

There is no justificatiuon at all for a full course.  this is a hangup for when a dogs vaccination history is unknown, and may never have been vaccinbated, so then two jabs would be appropriate, but otherwise a booster is just that no matter how long since the last one.

My (well, the dogs!) boosters cost more every other year because one of the boosters only has to be given every 2 yrs. Can't remember which one.
