This is just a post asking for any advice really... Myself and a friend ( Caron ) have been proposed to go on the Curly Coated Retriever Club of GB Committee... I have been in Curlies six years now... and as most of you on here know I made Pepper up in to a Show Champion last Year 2003... Pepper is my first Curly and I have achieved so much with her... now I have been given a chance to give something back to the Breed I am very passionate about.
Has anyone had an experience of being proposed onto a Committee for the first time... The voting is done at our Open Show in couple of weeks time... which is also the AGM.... The thing is nobody knows I have been proposed apart from obviously the commitee members... So question is why would anyone vote for me...??? A newcomer to the Breed... A youngster ( tender age of ( 27 ) )... as you can probably tell I am apprehensive about the whole thing... as I'm new to all this... but I know I have a lot to give to the Breed and the Club...
So if anyone can give me any advise or is a committee member and can let me know what is expected etc. etc... I would really appreciate any feedback.
Cheers
Vicki & Pepper xx

Don't worry about it or take the result to heart. Some members like to see some new faces on the committee bringing new ideas and new energy. Good luck and if you get on I hope you enjoy the experiance, when I first went on a committee I said nothing for the first 2 meetings and have not stopped talking since. :)

Jackie is right. Don't worry about it. Just expect to get all the jobs nobody else wants to do!!
Good Luck.

You may be lucky and not get on :) Just kidding! I've been on several committees over the years, greatest asset is to be able to get on with all kinds of people and to be able to bite your tongue sometimes.
That I can do... I can get on with people of any age... and I am very laid back... So I think I can handle it... but if I feel passionately about something then I will say so....
I think the Club does need younger people on the Committee... so me and Caron could be the way forward...if anybody votes for us...!!!!!
Maybe we'll start an election campaign... :)
VOTE VICKI & CARON... Any Curly members out there... :) ;)

Hi Vicki
You know that I'm not the most outgoing of people, but I'm on the Spanish Water Dog Club committee!! I'm sure that yourself and Caron would be a great asset to the club, you are really nice people and you can tell that you care about your dog/dogs!!
I'm quiet most of the time but when I need to I get up there on my little soapbox and get involved :d
Hope that it all works out, keep me posted.

Most committees seem to consist of those who argue about everything and those who do everything. Bet you will be one of the latter and be a credit to your club.

I joined as Secretary to a Cat Club last year and only knew 2 of the committee members, so was very nervous. However one person on the committee proposed and a second person seconded the proposal, so you only need 2 of the committee members to vote you on and if they have suggestion you join, then you should have no problem.
If they don't know you they may ask you to say a few words about yourself so get something prepared in advance, just in case. The first time I was asked to join a committee there were more applicants than places and I was not a public speaker which really let me down (have gained more confidence about doing it since then) but got on the second time.

Don't worry to much about it, i was in the same position a few years ago.
I did get voted on to the committee, and was quite nervous when i went along to the first few meetings.
but now i feel like i've been doing it years, most people on the committee were very welcoming and friendly.
Just be prepared to get stuck in especially when it comes to organising the shows, and don't be frightened to speak your mind, new ideas are always welcomed.
Good luck to you both.
Karen.
