I am trying to find a chocolate lab to join our family, I have managed to find a litter of pups that are quite local to us but the mothers hip score is 11:14 which is the highest I've seen the stud dog is 5:7. Can anyone advise if this is good or bad?
that is high for the mother, the dog isnt too bad but not brilliant especially with the bitch that high! personally i wouldnt & would look for another litter! saying me whose boy has a score of 42!!!![ his parents had low & average scores] do you know the grand parents & great grand parents scores?
I think the average score for Labs is 16 (please correct me if I am wrong folks) so the dam is above the average. I personally would not risk it and would not have bred from the dam with that score.
You may have to be prepared to travel some distance you want the right dog :)

Thank you all so much for you help, we are more than happy to travel anywhere in the uk to find the right puppy. This just seemed to good to be true!! Thanks again
If this is a well bred Labrador I would hope that the whole 5generations are scored and eye tested. I would suggest that you check through the pedigree for the relatives scores, if you can get a copy. If not well bred I would walk away, there are far too many chocolates being bred to satisfy a 'fashion', to the detriment of health, type and temperament :(
