I just wonder if this is the shop in Surrey that a lady bought a yellow lab from and then it died within a few weeks of 'purchase'
- By JenP Date 02.02.04 23:35 UTC
Hi Debbie
It wasn't my lab that came from there, but I have to say I haven't seen it while out walking for some months - do hope it's ok.  I do know they had a lot of problems with its digestion when they first got it.
best wishes Jenny

The kennels in question based at Manchester (now called Dogs 4 Us) DO have notices above every puppy kennel stating that the pups are NOT KC registered & only registered with the DLRC. So, buyers are well aware the pups have no KC papers at the time of sale, so can't really complain afterwards. I use the quarantine side of these kennels & the care is second to none, however i don't agree that they sell puppies in this way. Thank god they don't sell my breed, but i was once told they didn't want the hassle of the 'breed' problems later down the line.

I forgot to add in my previous post that the DLRC was set up by the previous owner of the kennels, but obviously he must have some kind of reciprocal agreement to supply the current puppies with this paperwork. They do still occasionally get the odd KC registered litter in, but i don't know how the breeders get away with selling to these outlets as it's against KC rules.

First someone has to tell the KC.  And that person has to a) be directlly related (eg bought a pup) and b) be willing to leave name and address details.  Then there is the problem of acutally finding the right person at the KC of course.

Can I just say that it is people such as yourself who keep these places going. You may not be using the services that we are objecting to but you are supporting them by using them full stop. The only way to stop these people is to take all their business away. The more you use them the more they will carry on.

Jesse......me stopping using the quarantine side is going to make no difference to puppy sales whatsoever in my opinion. The welfare of my dogs comes first, & i will put them where i feel they will receive the best care & attention for the 6 months stay. People are well aware what the situation is when they visit this kennels, it's quite clear there are no parents on the premises & the puppies are no KC registered. So, if they are foolish enough to buy from these places, then it's their own hard luck when it goes wrong.

Jesse a friend of mine put her import in another quarantine kennel to  the one Skyota is talking about. The poor dog was in a bad way and it took her a long time to sort him ,thankfully she did.
but the kennel in question has a great reputation for quarantine and so you cannot blame her for taking the best road for her  dog.:)
I am afraid when I am  getting an import  I will use this kennel as well .I want the dog fit and healthy when he is released to me.

Puzzled by this turn the thread has taken - there are a lot on Quarantine Kennels in the UK, some good, some not so good.  Are the 2 posters above claiming that this is the ONLY capable Q. kennel in the UK in their opinion?  We have, over the past few years used 3 different Q. kennels, all treated the dogs well, all were both caring and professional in their attitude to our dogs.  And none of them was this kennel.  Surely using a business which has an active interest in an undesirable trade , which is generally held to be damaging to the best interest and welfare of the dogs involved, would leave huge questions to be asked about other dog related business operated by the same firm.  Even if the facilities, staff etc are first class, the ethics and thought processes of those in charge would worry me greatly.

Just thought,  on a practical rather than ethical level, I would also be worried about cross infection.  By its nature, a dog dealing business is liable to suffer from various infectious canine diseases - parvo, kennel cough, etc., etc., puppy farmed puppies which arrive to be sold are often exposed to these complaints, and the mixing of various litters in one place casues it to spread.  It would therefore worry me greatly to have a dog in associated kennels - how could you guarantee that no staff etc. passed between the 2 parts of the business, thus carrying infections with them?

Hi
I was really suprised when I started reading this thread as I have never heard of this Dog Lovers whatever-its-called! (Sorry, cant see previous posts and am feeling a little slow today!). Do we have this in Britain or is it just an american thing? I'd never had dogs before I got Angel and so i just assumed the Kennel Club was the only place! And I'm glad I did now! Whoever thought this up is a bloody genius! (In an evil sense of the word!) It's a shame so many people have fallen for it.

It's not American at all, AngelBaby (though I'm sure they have their own equivalents). It's a British set-up.

Well I must just walk around with my eyes and ears shut then because I've never heard of it until I read this!! :(
