Can you crush the tablet and mix it with food? When I half it he knows and eats around it even tried in some chocolate. Also is it true that you should worm your dog more often when you have kids in the house?

I would crush it up in the food or disolve it in warm water.I don't think kids have anything to do with worms, but I do know fleas cause worms.I deworm my dog about every 2 months.
My dog eats it with no problem when crushed with a bit of yogurt. Not an expert but I remember my vet saying that I should reworm about every 5-6 months or 3 months if he is has a lot of contact with small children. Your vet should be able to help.

Cream cheese like Philadelphia or even the Tesco Value equivalent is good for disguising tablets with :) I think its something to do with the way it sticks to the tablet, so that the dog has it swallowed down before it even realises there is something dodgy about the treat its been given :D

I always use this method now Lesley since you recommended it to me before - it works a treat everytime :D

I worm my dog's every 3 month's. I have small children but even before I had kid's they were still wormed ever 3 month's. I have to put the tablet's down the throat as hold the muzzle till they swallow. Susan
P.S. We alway's pick up the poo's when they go and sofar not had a worm off the adult dog's.
Someone here told me Pilchards disguise medicine beautifully and they do. Smelly horrors though. :)

I have just wormed my dogs tonight by wrapping the pill in a smacko treat. Hold their muzzle and encourage them to swallow by rubbing their throat Works really well with any tablets or half tablets
I hide all tablets in bread and butter - wrap a small piece of heavily buttered bread round the tablet. Butter on its own also works for me.

Brought Beano in, It didnt touch the sides!!!!!!!
Brought Gemma in, expecting problems, Nothing. They didnt even touch the side!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

or wrap tablet in a small slice of ham :)

What I do is to get the tablet, open the dog's mouth, tuck it down as far as I can, shut the dog's mouth and stroke the throat till they swallow. Then stuff cheese, mince or whatever into their mouths. They are thrilled and swallow again, making sure the tablet has gone down.
Wins every time!

worm tablets are designed to be given whole and absorbed by the stomach to work efficiently crushing them up makes them less likely to work as they get absorbed b4 they get to the stomach - for a good wormer try panacurs new favourites they are chocolate flavour and you can give them like treats they do cat ones too and really the dogs will eat them or you get yer money back.

I found with my dogs that if I roll liver pate' onto balls with the tablets inside they usually beg for more.

Does anyone know enough about Drontal to know if I can give the spare half a tablet to the cat?!! This may seem daft but these tablets don't come cheap and because of my dogs weight I have to give her 1.5 tablets. Now it seems a bit silly to me to just throw the other .5 away if it would do the same job in the cat! I can't remember what the wormer I buy for the cat is called but it comes in a paste. I can get tablets down her if I try really hard and use a bathtowel!

I get Drontal plus through American ebay and they are £16 50 plus postage for 30 tablets. My vet charged me £10.00 for 2 tablets, The Frontline is £24 for 6 months supply of giant breed, Not much help for your cat but it works out a lot cheaper

Wow! It cost me £18.90 for four Drontal tablets, hence my reluctance to discard half a tablet (having very scrooge-like tendencies!). What is the shelf life of Drontal and do they 'expire' before you can use 30? I only need 16 a year although my mum has a huge lab and needs loads so perhaps we could share.
Thanks for that tip, it's amazing what you learn on here!
Jeangenie,I'm with you,no palaver,just gets it done,sandra.

Do not use dog wormers on cats, the main active ingredients in the specific dog/cat tablets are in different ratios for each animal. You can order wormers for cats on the internet in various places for about £1.50 - £1.75 per tablet and you can buy them singly.

I buy them in 30's as we have a 12 stone newfoundland,an 8 stone newfie, 10 stone Dogue and a 9 st Dogue, 2 Tibetan Mastiffs and a Yorky and Tibetan Spaniel I would need a second morgage to treat them every 3 months if I did not get the through ebay.

Tam has no problem with tablets. Jasper is right swine. I put as far down his throat as I can and rub it until he swallows, I think it has gone and let go of his muzzle and then he spits it out.

Please could I have search term which you use for Drontal on Ebay. I have tried with no success. Also, can I buy puppy wormer from there - he is 9 weeks old.
I push the tablet into a small chunk of strong cheese, he adores cheese and often swallows it whole, so tablet down in one!!

You have to go onto American ebay, if you go to home at the top of the ebay page, and scroll down to the bottom you will find a list of country's, go to united states, and pet supplies, and put search in for dog wormers, there are quite a few, I get mine from a greek vet his user name is "Salaco" the cost for 30 large breed up to 132LB I think it is $30 which is £15.84 and there is postage of $5 and there is $1.84 dollars to the pound, there is also a leather firm on there that sell brilliant splitter leashes for walking 2 dogs at the same time, I bought with a 6' leather and gold chain leash with postage it came to just $16, it had a ring on the leash so you can loop it round you waist if you are carrying bags etc. There are also a good range of dog prints etc that do not come up on english ebay, sounds like I should be employed by ebay sorry
Hi
I was reading about the splitter leash you bought. I was wondering if you have a link for the page. It might sound silly, but is Ebay like Google? A search site? I live in Denmark, but I should still be able to order through the net, right?

If you go to ebay home setting at the top of the ebay home page. and scroll down to the bottom, go to united states and it will change automatically to usa the 2 dog splitter leash is item 2380476900 buy now price $7.00 us.3 dog splitter item 2380176368 buy now $8.50, and the 6' ,3/42 width leather and brass chain leash is $10.50 if you click on to sellers other items. There is a conversion calculator on ebay that will change it into whatever currency you want to pay with I use paypal is it is easier and quicker I have just ordered another set, leash and 2 dog splitter and it came to $17.50 which is around £12 for the two. I hope you can understand this as I cannot do links. If you cannot get it send your email address to me and I can forward it on to you.He charges packing and shipping at cost.

Hi Jeanette
Sorry I havent Emailed you for a while!
Its www.ebay.com which I dont think anyone has mentioned! And its basically an auction site where you can buy things really cheap, some new and some second hand. Most people will post to anywhere but you can always Email them and ask or it'll say on the postage bit.
Hope alls well

I've just bought a 100 from www.vetmedic.com which I shared round with friends. It worked out at £1.57 per tablet - that was Drontal Plus. Vetmedic do smaller packets as well.
