I am actually on a pro-groomers mail list with the person concerned. She is a competition groomer, and from waht has been said on theother list, I think most of the groomer who heard the interview were impressed with the professional and helpful view she gave of groomers. You have to understand that as a commecial groomer we see dogs in the most apparlling state, time and again, from people who think that once a year attention is enough. To this end, a little publicity stunt, like a pink or green poodle, which gets some media attention for the industry will hopefully get a few more matted dogs into the parlours to be sorted out.
And I hate to crush you illusions, but loads of dogs are dyed using hair dye! It is, of course, very much against dog showing ules, but it happens. And in a lot of other countries it is the accepted norm. (as is bleaching for white dogs) As long as instructions are followed it does little harm. A product which is safe for a human will be safe for a dog. There is very little pH difference between human and canine skin, that being the handle on which dog shampoo manufacturers hag their products benefits - it is a fallacy. So products safe for people (and horses too) are almost always OK for dogs. And to be honest, it is likely to be a very messy business, I cant see many people actually trying it at home. If you like I can pass you e-mail details on to the person concerend, and you could tell her you concerns and she could explain her reasons and tell you something about herself and her dogs.
bye
