Topic Dog Boards / General / Pup Stolen
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 02.02.04 00:17 UTC
We heard today that one of the litter of pups our dog sired was stolen from his kennel today.  His owner had them out on the lawn for exercise with mum, put all three pups back in the kennel, went into the house to get the food and when he came back one was gone.  A neighbour saw the vehicle stop briefly but didn't think anything of it as he knew everyone was about.  They only took one of three pups so obviously knew what they wanted.

It just so happened it was the pup we would have kept if he didn't have a home to go to, but I didn't want it to happen like this and feel really upset about it.  I don't like to think of one of our pups out there that we don't have contact with.  The rest all went to homes we know and we can keep in touch, share photos, etc.

Isn't it awful the lengths some people will go to?

Hi there,

I'm so sorry to hear about the stolen puppy. I do hope that he turns up.

Unfortunately dog theft is on the increase, only today I was reading my copy of 'Horse and Hound' magazine and their is a three page article on dog theft. There is a new website www.lostdog.co.uk which will log your details with the hope of reuniting lost and stolen dogs to their owners. Set up only last year they took 600 details with the first 12 months but now are taking 100 dogs details a month so this gives you an idea of the size of the problem.

Again I do hope he is found.

Truely.  :-(

Realistically he isn't going to be found.  I just hope whoever has him appreciates him, loves him and trains him to be the brilliant working dog he is capable of being.  They don't have papers for him, so it's their loss in a way.

PS he is a beautiful black and white springer pup.

I feel that this is a good reason why puppies should be ID'd as soon as possible either microchip or tattoo. Anything to make dogs more easily traceable will deter most people although those that are stolen to order probably will never be found. We need to educate people that buying a dog from 'dubious' sources, like the pub carpark, is not the right way to go about buying a puppy.

What kind of puppy was it and what area do you live in, maybe some of the people on this site might be able to keep an eye out for any new pups of this breed that appear the there area, Have you tryed getting on to you local radio station and newspaper, put flyers up all round you district so every one know's what has happened maybe someone will know of a home that has just got a puppy of your breed. I am so sorry you must be beside yourself I can only imagine what it would be like, If you can get enough publicity they may leave him where someone will find him. How thing work out

Hi Jackyjat

Why don't you list him in the missing dogs section of the board.

Include
Breed
Colour and description - including markings and where they change, missing or extra teeth, colour of toenails, scars etc
Age & Sex
Tattoo/microchip etc
When and where taken from
The more information you give the more chance that he will be recovered
Take a look at [/link http://lostdogsuk.users.btopenworld.com]Lost Dogs UK [/link] and the page that gves times on what to do if your dog goes missing (or even to lessen the chances of it happening in the first place if it has not happened to you).

Sorry to hear about your pup going missing. Its heartbreaking not knowing where they are. We had a longhaired weimaraner pups stolen years ago out of a kennel when we lived in lincolnshire. We did eventually get it back but only because the longhairs are a bit easier to spot. I hope the pup does get returned to you all the best gwen
