he has given us some Synulox for her,but im so upset for her she wont eat and has been asleep all day.
we rang breeder to tell him and he says 2 of his are just getting over k.c should he have told us this when we went to pick her up? he did know that we already have 2 dogs at home.so these will get it to know??
does anyone know if there will be any lasting side affects????

Anna,

If you do a search on this board under kennel cough you should be able to get some answers.

The breeder most definately should have told you if any of their dogs have/had kennel cough recently.  It is a very contagious disease.  I was lucky when my dog had kennel cough.  It took two courses of antibiotics and about a month to clear.  It was very distressing not only for me but for my dog too.  He would cough mainly during the night and when playing.

Sorry I can't be of any real help to you and I hope your pup feels better soon.  Good luck.

Breeder should most definitely have told you about this and I would suggest that your other dogs will definitely get it.  It won't just go away, you need antibiotics from the vet.  Copper had this recently and he was really quite poorly with it and very distressed so you need to get treatment promptly.  It does clear up with treatment eventually but don't take the anti-inflammatory tablets the vet offers (£3 each!!) as Benylin does just as good or quarter of a co-codamol tablet (emergency vet told me this).  Although I DO STRESS my dog is not a puppy, nor am I a vet so make sure you get the proper professional advice.  Hope your pup gets over it soon, I'm sure he will.

thank you for your reply, i did say that i took Candy to vets and have got some synulox for her. I took her as soon as i knew something was wrong i love her to bits and hope she will be well soon.the breeder is now saying none of his have k.c . she doesnt seem to be coughing as much now but she still wont eat anything, and sleeps most of the time.as she is a cavie and small anyway i dont want her to go much longer with no food.
i have left my other 2 (springers) in there kennel and run since we knew she had k.c do you think this will help??
thank you

I'm afraid ,although it sounds dreadfully hard for you, I would return her to the breeder at this stage.   There could be really serious implications with kennel cough in a baby puppy.
Hopefully Briedog will pick up on this post and tell you of her experience

I feel for you.  I know there are lots of strains of KC some much worse than others (Breeders dogs must have it if yours does?). But that doesn't mean to say that yours is the worst strain at all.  If your wee one still doesn't eat just keep on at the vet.  You are doing the right thing isolating your other dogs.  If the pup isn't coughing so much that's a good sign, Copper wouldn't eat anything (hum except fresh chicken) when he was sick.  I think that's normal.  As long as he/she drinks water and isn't doing that sea lion bark/cough then I wouldn't worry unduly.  Hah, that's good coming from the world's biggest flapper!!  Please try not to worry too much, my vet told me KC is just such a common complaint and that's why there are so many strains and its becoming difficult to treat.  As your dog is just a pup he needs more care.  Please let us know how you get on.

If you get stockholm tar and put it in flat container where puppy is ,it will help clear it ,also it kills the virus in the air,There will be directions on the tin  you can get it in   chemist or horse supplies
Puppy should be getting baby benylin cough mixture .your vet should have given your other dogs anti kennel cough treatment
It is a syringe of serum and it is put up the nose of the dogs.My neighbours had it last year and all mine escaped after preventive treatment .
I had open lids of tar all over the kennels so it worked
