I picked up my new puppy last Saturday. He's fitted in very well, but last Sunday he started with conjunctivitis in one eye - the Vet saw him on Monday and said it was probably an injury, possibly from playing with my other dog, but there was no corneal damage. I've been bathing his eye twice a day and then applying the antibiotic cream prescribed by the Vet, but it looks to me as if it's getting worse. I went down and got a Buster collar for him today as he was getting a paw to it to scratch - now he can't reach it but the haw is still bright red and when he woke up after his nap his eye was actually stuck together with discharge and the whites of his eye had gone pink.
I'm going to take him back to the Vet tomorrow for another look, but I wonder if anyone else has experience of this in a pup. I'm actually getting very worried. Scared he's going to lose his eye. He's nine weeks old tomorrow.

If your vet says there is no corneal damage then I would not be too worried, If you are taking him to the vet tomorrow he will be in the best position to make a diagnosis. I would saythat it's extreamly unlikely for him to go blind but it's best not to take a chance. It's a shame this should happen to such a young puppy but unfortunatly these things do ocasionaly happen. Please let us know what the vet has to say about it.

Regards, John

Yes, I was right, it is worse. The inner eyelid is very inflamed, and the condition has now spread to the sclera. There are signs that the lower eyelid is beginning to turn in. The vet is going to try to reduce the inflammation with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory antibiotic eyedrops. The tear duct is not blocked, which is something. I'm going again next Wednesday; let's hope there is some improvement.

The symptoms sound like "Pink-Eye" like cattle get and people too. . . . . . . .but I suppose "Pink-Eye" is a type of conjunctivitis.
