Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / seasons and non stop humping!

My ten month old retriever (ellie) has not had her first season yet. However in the last few weeks she has started (ahem!) 'humping' my other bitch, (2 year old, spayed, Megan). She occaisionally did it when they were playing, when she was younger, but now she jsut seems to find any opportunity to do it. Not surprisingly, Megan is unimpressed!! Is this still excitement, or dominance based or is it related to an impending surge of hormones? Does it mean she will come into season fairly soon?
Also will ellie being in season affect her relationship with megan at all?

sounds like she'll be in season soon.
When she does -- it shouldn't affect her relationship with your other dog, except she may keep wanting to mount her & they may have a little argument over weather or not this is a good thing to do! But if they do have words, it'll only be while the hormones are flying around & things should soon settle back down to normal again.

There is no need if it isn't causing arguments, unless it is causing you embarasment, but then just tell them to pack it in if yiou hav e visitors:D

It is perfectly natural and mine do it all the time, including the spayed ones when the others are in season.  I usually know if a season is iminent by my 9 year old spayed bitch humping everyone (canine, not people). :D

My 8 month old female, Kirra, has started hump the 10 year old male.  She is spayed so I was wondering what would be causeing this.  He is neutered, so there shouldn't be the presence of hormones to cause that should there?  (Kirra is a little backwards though, she gets the ends of the dog confused.)  I have been just telling her no, and getting her attention on something else.

My Beattie is 9 and still tries to hump her mum or brothers, but only immediately after supper. They are none too impressed and shout at her, so she sulks. Daft old bat she is.

Mars Bar 1 used to like humping after her dinner as well ! It must be in the name as MB (Mars Bar 2) also likes a hump after a snack !! :D
