Took my girl to ringcraft for first time last night, i was so proud, she walked like a dream, sat when asked, laid down, stayed, came on recall, let strangers handle her, and was clapped by the trainers.
i have been working at home with her from when i first got her, and its paid off.
They have asked me to do the citizen dog scheme as shes half way there in the requirements. god i feel good.
I also met a rottie, a bitch not too friendly only 18 months old, she was aggressive and very hard to control for the handler, she actually sniffed my girl and then turned and snapped, i had my hand round my girls neck and unfortunately the rottie did,nt get her she bit my thumb insted, i was very put off going back actually.
Anyway the trainer run over with a squirty bottlew and sprayed water in her face.
This is meant to be a good decoy in dogs snapping, barking and snarling.
It worked with rottie though she went round to everyone and did'nt do it again, whether it was because the trainer had her i dont know, ive picked up this tip and am going to use it on our 4 year old collie when she wont stop barking at people coming in the house.
The evening was very interesting.

Sounds like your Ringcraft also combines it wiht Obedience lessons. Most Ringcraft classes just do the shoring stuff, i.e. dog being examined by the supposed judge, having teeth looked at etc, and learning to stand in show pose and trotting on a loose lead to show it's movement, usually up and back and in a triangle, so thw the judge can see the movement from behind, with dog coming toward them, and the side view.
I use the Water on my elkhounds, but it should only be used on the confident dogs, who it will not frighten but will be a mild shock giving time to get your command and praise in. Jackie H has found it works well with some of hers, but made two of hers worse re barking. I ajm glad to say it works as good as a canine remote control in my house:D :D

hi, someone came to the house to day and my 4 year old collie who constantly barks got the squirt treatment and a part from getting the shock oif her life, for the first time a squirt and combined "leave" actually worked, i could here myself talk and the visitor.

Can't say I agree with the trainers technique - she had enough time to run and get the bottle? In that case the punishment was waaaaaaaaay too late - all the Rottie will have learnt is that strange people around mean somebody is going to start acting irrationally :(

hi ll, it amazed me that it actually worked for my collie and when the trainer took over the rottie it was walking brilliant yet when the owner got it back it started again being aggressive to all other dogs there, i wonder if its the handling causing the problem as it was ok for the trainer? its weird.
