I have a 9 week old heeler pup who I have breed myself.
About eight days ago she seemed to have an alergic reaction to something.
her eyes were puffed and she looked like she had nettle rash.
As she was fit and well in herself I decided to just see what would happen.
Five hours later all went back to normal. The problem is the dark pigment
round her eyes has stayed light ever since. Any suggestions as to why
and if round the eyes will darken up again. Bit sick really she is my pick
of litter and wonderful example otherwise.

What food is she on ?,I had problems once with a similar thing and I had mine on Beta puppy and was told by the vet that the pup had a zinc deficiancy,he gave me some capsules to break up and spread on the food and after a while she was fne. may not be the same but thought I'd mention it.

That probably it.
I was thinking along the same line but thought calsium.
Did not think of Zinc I will see the vet.
she is on pedigree puppy and anything else she can nick.
Did your dogs eyes go right?
Thanks

I stopped using Beta and went on the pedigree but I dont think you need the Vet yet you can get the zinc capsules from the health shop, just break one up and sprinkle on her food...yes it improved drastically after so now I always watch for it in pups I have noticed a few pups in rescue the same so just up their zinc and they are fine,on the breakdown on the bags of food just check what amount is in some are higher than others.

loads of black pudding is good for pigment lorraine. and [at the risk of being attacked :)] dark beer is also good as is elderberry raspberry leaf kelp and black strap mollasses .

Thanks Mari, tried the molasses will try the black pudding next and let you know !, it's nearly filled in, just 2 little circles separated by black left, will they fill in do you think ? saw a pic of a white akita in a book and that had small pink patch in centre of the black and looked quite odd, anni looks lovely when shes been in the garden digging as mud covers the patches then.
