Hiya
I just wondered if anyone could explain how to do a 'sendaway' at least I think thats what its called. At our class last night she asked how we'd all been getting on with it, but I missed the lesson explaining how to do it :-( (flipping car broke down again grrr) She then went on to do something else so I never got chance to ask about it....OK more like I forgot to ask lolol

Theres so many ways to do it,id ask your instructer about the way they teach it. but basically you need your dog to run in a straight line & drop on command. i could tell you how i do it & 100 other ways besides. ask yor instructor!

You can use food bowl, "touch" target like an alley oop or a road cone, or a mat; it depends whether you are training an obedience or WT sendaway as for the latter you will be working in hundreds of yards and so a mat cannot be seen from a distance.
I would advise you to teach the sendaway and the "down" separately and not combine them until both are completely understood by your dog.

Hi
Thanx for your replies. I know she said that we just use a mat & gradually get him used to going to the mat to get a treat. Considering he's a gun dog he's absolutely hopeless at fetch lol, hopefully he'll manage this.
