Hi,
I've been waiting to move house for about a year to get back onto the mainland. This week (just as we decide to stay put  ) we have been approached by 2 families wanting to exchange with us!
The first is in Stoke-on-Trent, or very near, the other is in Luton. Neither are the rural location we really want but they are at least on the right side of the water!
I've done the usual 'up my street' , multimap, etc research but wandered if anyone could give me first hand opinions on the areas. We want good and bad (but if it's really bad maybe you'd best pm me so not to offend residents ;) )
We'll probably carry on with the plan to open our own business here, buy this house then sell both in a few years time

Like most big towns some parts of Luton are fine but there are others I would not recommend.

Hi Wishfairy
Can I suggest you contact the local police force and ask? also get quotes from insurance companies the higher the rate then possibly that area has a higher percentage of burgulary etc. Or orderget the local paper for that area and see councils normally have monthly/weekly paper B'hams is calle dth evoice and tells you more than you think about an area.
Just a few suggestions Karen

Great ideas Karen :D I know nothing about either (except one has an airport the other's near alton towers) and it's not easy to visit both in the one trip over.
I'll do what you suggest.

Being an almost 'Potter' born and bred, missed the title by about 3 miles Thankfully, I can tell you the people are really helpful and very friendly, some area's are to be avoided like the plaque others despite it being an industrial area are very rural.
If you are not a careful driver mind you will be paying a lot out on speeding fines as Staffordshire in general has the largest number of speed Camera's in the country. Council tax is lower than most areas nearby, house prices are very competitive too, loads of dog clubs for whatever sport you fancy doing with the beast, my friend is part of a racing group for Afghans and other breeds, then of course you are close to Stafford show ground and the NEC, mind that don't mean you'll get there any quicker than anyone else due to the M6, gonna try the new toll this yr.
I moved out 10 yrs ago to Shrops and would be moving back this yr if my doggie friends were a bit closer as I need help when my youngest leaves for Uni - instead I'm looking at Nottingham and Derby another mining community for me I think lol.

I think it's called Norton-in-the-Moors. I can pm you the postcode if that helps?
I think if we were to go on area alone then it would be stafford but the houe in Luton has an 80' square garden and that's nice :)

I worked in Luton for over a year and I guess it depends what you're used to but I certainly wouldnt choose to live there out of choice!!!!
Although I'm sure there are nicer bits than the bits I saw
