Perhaps not in the USA :( Don't forget, they sell pedigree pups in shopping malls as standard practice :(

Hi, we already have a thread on this, but cant find it now. Have heard from one of my USA bases lists that a lot of breed clubs are tracing the pictured dogs through the shows on the winners boards and the superintendents lists, then contacting the dogs breeders as well as the owners. But, unfortunatley it is perfectly legal. Dog auctions are common in the 'puppy mill" states, but normally sell off the breeding stock and whole of litters of pups, usually intended for the pet shop trade. Someone on the other (USA) list said that Chh dogs such as these can go for Thousands of $$$$. Dont know who is buying .

Yes, we too allow puppies to be sold from pet shops as standard practice when really everyone that is concerned with the welfare of dogs should be trying to get it banned. We are no better are we?
I really don't think the point was about who was better or worse, however I've yet to see pedigree/cross pups sold in any shopping mall I've been in, in the U.K.
In the U.S. however, yes many times.

There are many ways that puppies can be sold other than directly from breeder to permanent home.
For example, a person applies to their local Council for a pet shop Licence. These have been issued to individuals in a dwelling houses that 'buy in' puppies to resell, to breeders that already have a Dog Breeders Licence and sometimes a Dog Boarding Kennel licence but to supplement their income also have a pet shop licence, again to 'buy in' extra puppies to resell and lastly the typical pet shop in any high street/ back street or a pet supermarket. They are all buying in puppies usually from puppy farmers in Wales both Licenced and unlicensed (some KC registered their puppies not all use the other registration companies) and other puppies originate from Ireland both North and South and Scotland too. It is a multi -million pound industry but it a trade that should be banned. This was the point I was making that any country that allows puppies to be sold from a third party should seriously be considering whether this trade in puppies, which lacks proper regulation, has massive animal welfare concerns and is detrimental to the puppies short and long term welfare should be banned. Too many puppies sold this way become sick shortly after purchase, some even die, it is a very cruel and wicked trade.
The only people that gain in this trade are the breeders/dealers and wholesalers who are in this trade for one thing alone and that is monetary gain.
Liberty, you may not have seen any puppies for sale in a shopping mall in the UK but I can assure you there are very many operating - take a look in LOOT, Exchange and Mart, Friday Ads some advertise their premises in these papers but these are just the tip of the iceberg.

Pat, I dont think either Liberty or I were intending to convey superiority of the UK over the USA. The puppy trade, anywhere in the world, is distasteful and damaging to the dogs invlolved. I think few members of champdogs would not want to see selling puups by a third party being made illegal. But while we do have pups (often crossbreeds) in pet shops, and there are still puppy supermarkets in various parts of the country (and lets not forget Harrods) it is not quite as commonplace as in the USA, I have never been in a mall in the UK with pups for sale, but just about every shopping and outlet mall in the USA has at least 1 "puppy palace" or similar. And I have certainly never heard of a dog auction in the UK (apart from working sheepdogs). Once of the particularly distasteful aspects of this auction is that a lot of the dogs are Champions, from the placement boards some may be 'older'dogs. Breed clubs are appalled to find exhibitors would consider with parting in such a way, and are eager that the dogs breeders should be made aware.
