Our dog passed away several months ago. We are looking for a new puppy now. The problem is that she was a pedigree labrador retriever and she was very short. People used to still think that she was a puppy. At the time we were told by the breeder that she was a miniature labrador. However trying to find another miniature labrador has proved very difficult and we have drew several dead ends. Could anyone tell me wether or not miniature labradors are recognised as a breed?
i would be very grateful for any information anyone may have. thank you.

Sorry to hear you've lost your dog.
I don't think that there's any such thing as a minature lab, but the one you had may have been a small example. The lab I've got is very small, but fine too and she's from a working strain. I think if you wanted a small lab you would have to hunt around for someone who breeds small ones. I hope you find a nice one.

I saw an article about Jimmy Hill's dwarf lab in the last few months. (Dogs Today, I think, or it may have been Your Dog). The dog looked to be the same size as normal but with short legs. I think they said it is a quirk of nature and was from a normal litter, not something you could breed for (or would, I guess).

You can get dwarfisim in dog as you can in the human. Think it is genitic, but don't think anyone would deliberatly try to breed abnormal puppies !! JH
