Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Bitch not eating

Me again.  My bitch is 54 days and has goen right off her usual food unless cornflakes or rice pudding is added.  I am a little concerned as she has not eaten properly for about a couple of days.  She seems okay in herself but was wondering if it was okay to feed her the above foods or if someone can suggest something to encourage her to eat.

I know that I will get good advice as always and appreciate your help.

Thanks

Naomi

Hi There

Dont worry to much she hasn't got long left now. The above foods are okay if thats what she wants.
Try her with some Scrambled eggs and cheese, maybe just lighter meals now, she is probably not feeling like eating.
There is nothing unusual about this dont worry pups will soon be here.

Good Luck

Thanks Brodie for that.  I just needed to know that I was giving her the right foods.  I don't want to do anything to harm her or her pups and I feel so sorry for her. She looks so heavy and fed up.  I took her for a walk yesterday and for the first time I was able to take her without her harness.  It was lovely to be able to walk along with her on a collar and lead without her pulling.  Poor thing we only walked half way round the block and that was enough for her.  5 minutes I think it was.  I have moved her food bowls and her water dish into her whelping pit and that seems to be better for her.  Will try her later with scrambled eggs and grated cheese.  Well, that's my dinner sorted as well then!  Good job I bought 30 eggs this morning.

Will let you know how we get on.

Thanks agian Brodie for your help.  I knew someone could help and that's why I love coming on this forum.  Always someone ready to help.

I am sure you already have, but just in case.  Have you split her food up into 3 or 4 meals a day?  At this stage they are so heavy and bloated that they can only face a small amount at atime.

I have often found that when offered food at one time they won't eat, but feeel redy for it half an hour later.  this is the one time I will pander to them, and offer nutrictious treats with their grub, like sardines, cheese, eggs ham etc.

I find my bitches will happily drink half a pint of puppy milk (Litterlac), or the nutrolac (which is made from goats milk), neither of these upsets their tummies, and I continue with this until the pups start on it themselves.

I tried splitting her food but still refused it.  She does like a little bit of milk in her water but never actually thought of giving her puppy milk.  I might try her on it as I have been a little ahead of myself and bought a couple of tins of puppy milk just in case.  Scrambled eggs went down well dinner time too.

She has eaten some more food and is now relaxing in her bed.  At least now she is getting used to her new quarters and seems quite happy to sleep in there.

My girl has been doing the same thing for about 3 days, the first day she wouldnt eat anything but now she really likes fish, eags, rice and ground beef just keep trying things that she might like, and offer food often.
Hope that helps.
