I am in the process of importing two puppies but they need to go into quarantine for 6 months. I am worried about the effects of quarantine regarding socializing with children, I have two.
Thanks in advance.

If hope the quarantine will be near enough for you to visit often. If so, bring the children along.

Thanks for the reply. We are about 20 minutes/half hour from the kennel and we hope we can visit the puppies at least 3/4 times a week.

I don't know what breed it is but I imported a pup at 9 weekd from USA with 3 friends. I visited him about 3 days a week, and often took friends or my own kids with me whenever I could.
The pup went to his first show 3 days after coming out of Quaratine, and I expected him to be overwhelmed at first. He bounced into the show wanting to be friends with man or beast.
If the bacic temperament of both parents is really sound and the indivisual is bold and freindly then it is amazing how well a pup comes out ot Quarantine. It is a little more difficult with some very sensitive, stand offish or suspicious breeds. I also always took a Radio with me and set it to a talk station ,as I didn't often have a chance to bring a man along, as visiting was in wroking hours.

Starbabe, i've imported young pups into quaratine last year, they were 12 weeks & 16 weeks on arrival. The pups loved every minute of it, they were truly spoilt by the kennel girls & all the visitors used to coo over them as well.....lol Sadly, the male had to be pts after 3 months due to health reasons, but the female came home in December & she has made herself right at home. She gets on great with my other dogs & loves everyone who visits. I have 2 more pups arriving in about a weeks time, the same age as the last 2. I've found that the younger they are when they arrive, the better. Older dogs can fret a bit more as they have already bonded with their owners in the other country. Puppies are much happier when given lots of attention. Most quarantine kennels have visiting 6 days a week, so if you can, go & see the pups often & play with them etc... Make sure the staff are giving them extra attention & lots of toys. The kennels i use has a radio on during the day, so there is plenty for them to see & hear. Whereabouts in the country are you? You might be using the same kennel as me, what breed are yours?.....Sue.

Hi Sue, do you know another animals are allowed to visit the puppy as i have a cat

Hi......NO, you cannot take any other animals into the quarantine kennels. If you were to do that, then your cat could bring out any disease that might be in there. Best you can do is take a photo of the cat to show the pups.....LOL Sue.

I just had a look at them on the internet, nice looking dogs. Remind me a bit of a leggier english bull terrier, but i think the adults have their ears cropped? Will yours be the first ones in this country?

I am not sure but probably they are supposed to be very rare outside Brazil. I prefer the long ears!

Going to bed now thanks for the replyes. Goodnight.

When I imported my dogs a few years ago I had friends who went along on different days of the week too, so they had quite a bit of socialisation. My 12 month old came through it no problems but the 7 month old dog did have quite a few prob's. Hope everything goes ok with yours.

Hi.What kind of problem did you encounter with regards to your dog was it behavioural?

He wasn't actually mine and yes it was. Unfortunately the person who had him wouldn't have him in the house so not only did he live in a kennel for 6 months but he was then garaged. He couldn't stand men or children. For 2 years trainers struggled to try and help him, eventually he did end up in a pet home with children and he was brilliant. People used to come up to me and say how shocked they were as they'd seen him in the local shopping precinct and there were people and children all over him!! Fortunately it turned out well in the end and maybe if he'd been in a home environment as mine was he may of had an easier two years.
