Hi Wps,
I'm not exactly sure I understand what you mean (it's late and I'm being particularly dense!). A breeder who sells KC registered pups has to provide a written pedigree (I think of at least 3 generations - most provide 5) but it can be handwritten on lavatory paper if they want. If the purchaser wanted a nicer-looking copy they could buy one from the Kennel Club.

As your pup is not KC registered, and wasn't advertised as such, then I'm afraid what you've got is all you're likely to get. Sorry.

i do have pedigree papers but only photocopy...like u say it is late.....i was just wondering if i should have proppa copy or not.....otherwise surely i can sell nice lookin mongrel as pedigree and just make up copy of papers ??:)
ps thnx for reply :)

A 'pedigree' is only a list of the names of a dog's (or person's) ancestors. You are entirely dependent on the honesty of the breeder. Without KC registration to back up what the breeder says you must simply go on trust. As regards physical paperwork, unless you ask the breeder to hand-write or print out another copy, I'm afraid what you have is the limit of what you're going to get.

PS - And sadly yes, unscrupulous people do pass off crossbreeds as pedigrees. KC registration isn't infallible, but it's the best system we have. Anything else is purely down to trust.

You may have a copy but why the breeder hasn't given you the original i don't know? You would have to transfer the dog over to your name so i presume that something is wrong in the 1st place. Really unsure but i think if you have the dogs name off the 'copy papers' then you can apply for the original.
As for selling a nice looking mongrel as pedigree and make up a copy of papers.........Yes visit the DLRC (dog lovers registration club) and you will see that you can.
Although it would be harder to actually make up a KC document because the parents have to be reg' but nothing these days is fool proof.

Hi Wps, as your pup is not KC registered, you will have to ask the breeder for an original copy. Nobody else will know the details.

Is it just me, or in the gallery, does it say Golder Retriever?

Would imagine this 'breeder' made one copy and then photcopied it the number of times they had puppies for sale. May be use the same one each time.

Hi  if your girl isnt Kennel Club registered you can't apply for anything the photo copy you have is all you will get.Sorry :( Gillian

Hi there

Enjoy your puppy for what she is - a beautiful little yorkie!   Unfortunately, the only person you can ask for a "proper" pedigree is the breeder, and you do say that you don't want to go back there.... it sounds as if you have "rescued" a puppy from a puppy farm :(

Regards
Margot

when i got my pup i was told he was pedigree and kc registered.

but we met the owners half way who said they would forward them on ..which six months later and several phone call later im still waiting for them desite being told there in the post or am sending them soon. i do not have her address only her name and phone number.
i have contacted a solicitor who can notget involved for some unknown reason.  trading standards  can not do anything as she is no longer a breeder.

So - you didn't see the puppy at home?

Sorry, but this smacks all the more of puppy farming.

That just doesn't sound right Tracey :(

Did you buy him from an advert? If you can get a hold of it again and it says 'KC reg' then trading standards should still get involved because he isn't as advertised :(

I know you love him but when you are paying that much money you really want to get the 'goods' so to speak. I'm still waiting for my KC papers and have rang the breeder recently to find out what's holding them up - apparently there was a mistake on the ones sent through so she's had to return them to be corrected

Saw 3 month old GD pups in the local rag today for £250 :( at that price anyone can go get one without too much thought or consideration. I've a feeling I'll be seeing them in the 'free to good home' section in another few months :(
- By tracey [gb] Date 26.01.04 21:06 UTC
i saw him in an advert quids in ....  i didn't pay all that much for him and thought i was getting A bargain
I paid £350 for him   but obviously not.
- By tracey [gb] Date 26.01.04 21:34 UTC
there is an ad in   quids in this week for  people selling a great dane two bitches  only £30 each   surely that is a mis print

or owners desperate to sell
- By Wishfairy [gb] Date 26.01.04 21:40 UTC
That's awful  I really hope it's a misprint or someone might buy them as a 'surprise' or to breed and make a few £££'s :( I know I've always wanted a dane and if I'd have been able to buy one for £30 I would have had one years ago, but years ago I wasn't in the position to look after one properly so it's a good job i didn't!

As for your own boy - he's a Dane and you love him... sounds like a bargain to me :)  I paid over double that for Dizzy but that doesn't mean that she will show any better or behave any nicer than your boy (sorry I forget his name)
- By mygirl [gb] Date 26.01.04 21:46 UTC
Was he a pup 'pup' when you got him or older than 12 weeks? Maybe they bought him and couldn't cope or realised danes are addicted to sofa sitting! If so they maybe you are the lucky one :)
- By tracey [gb] Date 26.01.04 21:53 UTC
he was 11 weeks old when we got him.....apparently he was the 1 no one wanted

there were 7 in his litter and they kept one for them selves and were trying to sell him but nobody wanted him......poor thing!!!

I think confusion comes in the literal definition of pedigree, and what people have taken pedigree to be.  In literal terms a pedigree is the documentation of the lines behind your dog (a family tree) for a certain number of generations.  A dog does not have to be PUREBRED to have a pedigree. Many lurcher breeders take great pride in the pedigrees (family lines) of their lurchers, and in many cases can trace them back even further than some purebred dogs.

People tend to use the term 'pedigree' and 'purebred' interchangeably, but this is not accurate.

Chances are you DO have a PUREBRED yorkie, but it is unregistered.  You have a 'pedigree' to go along with it - this shows the family lines.  Whether the piece of paper is an original or a copy, to be honest, is irrelevant - it is just a piece of documentation that shows the lines behind the dog.

So, if you knew the dog was NOT KC registered, but WAS purebred and came with a pedigree, then you got what you agreed to.  If it's not registered then there is nothing else to follow.

Sorry if it's not what you want to hear.

Wendy
