Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Greyhound with separation anxiety

We rehomed our second greyhound straight from racing kennels 3 months ago as our first old lady has sadly died. Many of the early expected anxieties have been managed, however..... Clo is now increasingly distressed at being left in the kitchen both during the day and at night. She climbs the walls, cries, pants heavily, wees and is genuinely anxious. We're going to try the DAP diffuser, and people have suggested the crate, but as she is not food motivated and would not go in willingly I cannot lift her as she's too heavy for me.

Please can you help?

Have you thought of a child gate?  This would enable her to see and hear you and may not get so distressed.

Good luck

If she is an ex racer she will be missing the company of other Grey's. They are very sociable dog's. If you can't have another Greyhound or other similar type try leaving the radio on low so she does not feel all alone.  I use a radio in my kennel and the dog'd seem to like it,when they are in it. Its worth a try. Susan
