Can anyone provide details of medium sized breed other than poodle, maltese or bichon which doesn't lose coat? Must be suitably child friendly breed.

Hi, Westies dont have a moult but lose a little hair each time they are groomed. Though I would call them (and Maltese, the small poodles and Bichon small breeds rather than medium. Properly reared westies are good with good children!!

How about a schnauzer? I have two and no "dog hair garnish" as we had with our old spaniels -they are very people friendly and only need exercise when you want to give it. There are three sizes but I guess the miniature (which I have) would be the size you are looking for. Good luck in your search.

You could look at a Havanese, they don't shed and are a little bigger than bichons etc.

Perro de Agua Espanol (Spanish Water Dog) is a medium sized dog which doesn't moult. They do need to be worked even if its just the odd retrieve in the local park and more importantly a swim in the local waterpark, lake etc.

Unfortunately the waiting list for one is about a year or more.

Hungarian Vizslas are medium sized and don't moult much either, my Vizslas get along well with my kids too, although I don't believe any owner should be 100% complacent that their dog can be left around the kids (or the kids around the poor dog for that matter!!!!)
