Do your dogs ever seem to actuallyl TRY to make a fool of you, becasue I am sure mine do.  Lillith was bred by me, and is shown in partnership with a friends, with whom she lives.  yesterday she came home from a beach walk dead lame, hind leg held up, obvious agony.  So much pain she had had to be carried back to the car, with a firm grasp (with teetch)on friends hubbys hand for the whole trip.  After half an hour at home she was using the leg, but was settled down on a comfy cushion with muchlove and sympathy.  We didnt give too much credence to the problem, as she comes from a long line of overacting bitches - her great-grandmother once ALMOST had her toes jammed by a table, and would never enter a training class or show again!  This morning I got a phone call, she obviously wasn't 'hamming it up" this time.  Had walked 2 or 3 paces, then couldnt put any weight on leg any more.  So, straight to vets with her.  We arrived, and she sat on my knee waiting with her little head drooping, playing the brave little soldier.

In the surgery I put her on the table, explaining that we hadn't been in too much panic as we thought she was milking it.  Also explained she was a wimp, and might snap if she thought it would hurt (try trimming her nails!!!).  Vet flexed both back legs, had poorly leg rotating, both legs wiggling about in the air -no reaction at all.  Asked if she would lie on side, and I said she should, but wether she would.  Lifter her to lie down, she went totally floppy and bounced head off table (I felt so bad) and then lay perfectly still, bravely bearing up!  I felt the worst dog mum ever!  this poor, brave little thing, and me saying all that about her.  No sign of pain at all!  Put her on floor and moved her up and down surger - sound and using all 4 legs evenly!  Many apologies, and off we went home.  Soon as I arrived at firends house and popped her on floor 'poorly' leg right up in the air, and she hobbled to the nice comfy cushion, shooting me looks of reproach over her shoulder!

Anyone know where you get canine equity cards, and do you think she might get a small part on Casualty!
bye

LOL :D

Our old Corgi used to to this if he felt we were neglecting him ~ and he felt neglected a lot ;)

My mums Cairn used to SCREAM blue murder if she thought that you might (just might) tread on her feet, it was enough to give anyone heart failiure!

There should definately be some kind of recognition for acting ability...... the DAFTA comes to mind

Oh so know this one, a rider lost control of her horse and knocked my dog, down she went and didn't get back up, nothing we did could make her move, so got some nice men to carry her all the way back to the car we were ages away from it, laid her gently in the back, its sunday so phone the vet to have them meet us at the surgery for the emergency, get there vet comes to the boot to lift her out and she gets up and jumps out nothing wrong at all!!!!!!  the little darling!!  Kudos to the vet laughed so much didn't charge anything even though it was a sunday call out!!

My friends Rotty (Rosella who has sadly passed on due to cancer) when she was playing with Taz and things wouldn't go her way she would limp on 3 paws holding her right front foot way up to her mommy whining till her mommy would cuddle her, then off she would go no problem..She was a big drama queen that one. Also the funniest thing I seen was when my friend would give her heck (if she was playing tugawar with the leash or what ever) she would make her sit ask for her paw and tap it saying bad bad bad girl, then she would walk all fine. She was a real big bratt :D

I had a flatcoat called Lucinda, Lucy to her friends..... Well what mischief that one got into could fill a book, but two things spring to mind. when she was small she managed to steal a bag of sugar and a pound of butter. Was she sick? Oh yes she was, now the kind vet said, she will cough because she has been sick so much from her illicit snack. My children felt very sorry for my poor coughing puppy, and would make a big fuss of her and giving her a titbit. OK so bad training, but Lucy perfected it into an art. We would arrive at a show, and if she saw somebody eating their lunch on the benches or where ever, she would start by giving a little cough, if ignored she would cough louder and louder! If I had a £1 for every time somebody at a show said to me "You know it is against the KC rules to bring a dog to a show with kennel cough...." or words to that effect, I'd be retired and living in some exotic paradise right now.
Another of her little tricks was to play the poor sick dog in the show ring itself. If it was a sunny day, (and it didn't even have to be very hot), she would get into the ring and within two or three minutes would lie flat out on her side, (really sunbathing), anyway no matter what anyone, steward, handler, or judge said she wouldn't move a muscle. At one show an angry crowd gathered threatening to report me to the RSPCA, the KC and any other body they could think of. Lucy was really being unco-operative. They were saying, "Your dog is dying of sunstroke, she needs a vet immediately" continuing with a lecture about what a cruel horrible owner I was keeping my dog in hot sunshine etc.... They were always amazed when at the end of a class I would say, "Lucy would like an ice cream?" and within seconds she was on her feet, and out of the ring like a greyhound in full gallop! She would then queue up at a stand selling ice-cream and would all on her own shuffle forward in the queue whether I was there or not. Of course the vendors would spot her and ask whose dog it was, and as everyone said it was not theirs, when she did finally reach the front of the queue, she would always get her ice-cream or burger or what ever she was queuing up for.
Working tests were a nightmare, if she was in a good mood, I knew there would be no problem she would make every test look so easy you would imagine she wrote the book, if she was not in the mood to co-operate she would ignore you totally! For example a walkup test was under taken by myself, while she would sit and enjoy the view, back at the start. Out shooting she was good, but if I gave a command in too gruff a voice, she would sneak off and choose a gun to sit beside. She would then act as his peg dog for the day, totally ignoring me, and making it obvious to everyone. Of course she would be paw perfect for the gun, not moving from his side other than to retrieve the game he had shot. So many guns loved having her sat there, I think they often hoped I'd be a bit gruff with her on the day!

Oh wow, Liliths is really novice stuff compared with this, Polly!  To give an update, she spent all yesterday afternoon lying on her cushion, on rare occassions she had to move the poorly leg was way up in the air.  At tea time friends Hubby, a very keen gardener, went to the bottom of the garden to make his final severe weather preps.  (Just seen forecast on the News!) and all the dogs went with him, with the usual yps and woofs.  Lilith sat up, listened, shot out of the kitchen and OVER the baby gate(to keep the others out of the kitchen while she was in pain!) and raced up the garden, sound as a bell!  No sign of a limp since.
bye

Yes well Lucinda was a one off and thats a fact! However it sounds very much like Lilith is well on the way to being heir to Lucy's drama queen crown. :-)
I know John would also have Lucinda stories, since he saw her nearly all the time back then. A friend worte a poem about her which I did at one time put on here. I'll dig it out and send it to you as an owner of such a drama queen you'll really understand the thought and feeling about it.
