Hi i am getting a puppy in about 10 days and I was just wondering how much money I should take take to the vets to get my puppy fully innoculated and castrated.
This would be really helpful.
Thanks louise.

It all depends on where you live, but where I am - Berkshire - it costs about £50.00 for vacinnations and another £25.00 for microchipping. I can't help you with castration costs though - I've got a girl, but having her spayed will cost me about £130.00.
Your best bet would be to call a couple of local vets and ask them.
Hope this helps,
Fiona

Here in Lincolnshire a full set of vaccinations will set you back about £35.00 ..don't know about castration though. If you ring your local vetinarians they will usually give you the price over the phone

Could I strongly recommend that you consider Pet Insurance. It will give you peace of mind. Unfortunately, it does not cover inoculations or neutering. However, if you wait until a problem occurs, you can then NOT have cover for that particular problem, so set up Insurance as soon as possible.
By the way, hopefully, you will not be having your puppy neutered at too early an age?
Phone a couple of local Vets to where you live, and ask about their charges, including Consultation fees. You will be surprised how they vary.
All the best,
Denise.

Hi Guest, Denise has raised a very valid point. Hopefully though, the breeder will insure the puppy for you free of charge for 6 weeks - it doesn't cost the breeder anything either. Pet Plan is one of the most popular insurance companies as they will continue to insure a condition/illness or the whole of the dogs life, most companies will only cover treatment for an illness for 12 months, then cover stops for that condition. If your breeder does not know of this free scheme, you could ring Pet Plan and get them to send the breeder or yourself a book of cover notes. The breeder then rings up and arranges full cover before you leave with your puppy. They have several phone numbers, I'm not sure if this is the right one to ring for cover notes but if it isn't they'll give you the right one : 0800 072 7000 As an incentive Pet PLan give vouchers ( Argos M&S etc) to breeders who participate. I have 2 vets in my area one charges £27 for vaccination the other £40 for the same treatment, it does pay to ring around.
