Hi, I am after some advice please. I have an 18 week old Golden Lab puppy who is absolutley brilliant apart from two things : 1. the play biting which hurts even more now as she is teething and 2. She will only pee and poo in our back garden - where she has been trained to do so since we had her at 10 weeks old.

The play biting I can handle OK, but when we go out for a walk or to family and friends, she will not pee or poo until she gets home to her back garden, even if she is breaking her neck to do either, she just hangs on till we get home! How can I get her to do her business outside ??

She WILL go elsewhere...eventually. There will come a point when she just cannot hold on any longer and she will go :) It is quite a common problem ;) My breeders bitch was the same for many months :p

hi, my puppy lab is 6 months now and she was the same, but the last 4 days or so she will wee on a walk, still rushes to the back door as soon as she gets home to have apoo though.

You could try training her to go on command. I use 'Gedawee' (get a wee) when Dizzy 'toilets' in the hope that she will go wherever I tell her too... eventually!

I find it handy having her use the back garden most of the time as I'd rather pick it up from there than carry it around in my pocket when we're out walking :rolleyes:

Nanuk is exactly the same and she is 4 1/2 years!  I used to take her to my parents house and everytime I needed her to go to the toilet I had to take her for a walk as it wasn't my garden.  Well every time, she would refuse to go whilst she was on the leash and she would go a good 14 hours without going because it wasn't her garden!  I have fond memories of living in Germany and my husband trying to make her "Go Toilet" in the freezing snow and wind at midnight as we lived in an apartment and had no garden!  He would be out there for about an hour just waiting for her to pee!  Even now she will never poo on the leash!
