Going for the first time this year - can I take pickies?
- By archer [gb] Date 20.01.04 19:59 UTC
yes but you need to ask permission if you are taking piccys of particlar dogs...to explain better if you are just taking a general photo of the sho thats fine but if you see a dog you like you need to ask the owners permission to take its photo(this is how I read it anyway)

YUp archer that right.  You can take general pics but for particular dogs owner/handlers perrmission is needed.  That also applies to video cameras, you can only video your own dog.

This rule seems to just vanish after BOB - people just flock into the ring, clicking madly!
bye

Was wondering about this myself.
Not gutsy enough to ask permission, so suppose I will have to stick to general photos!!!!!!!!!
What about Mobiles????????? Have you got to have them on silent, off or what??????(of course I would have it on loud or ringer on when =standing at show ring)
Dad looking after my kids as I am taking mum with me for company. So need my mobile just in case there are problems (you know what dads are like!!!!!!)
Oh god, I am going to have soo many questions before going in March, and I am not even showing!!!!!! I dread to think what it is like for the showers first time at crufts!!!!!!!!

Thanks Satin coller :)
Just sorted out accomodation and now thinking of everything else. We are going on Gundog and Pastural/working day.
Anyone know what Parking is like?????? Is it better to take the 4x4 or Escort??????
What time is best to get there for parking, working out where to be for certain rings etc???????????????
Lea :)
Sorry for hijacking you question Scattergood.

be carefull with mobile phones, a gentleman around the gsd rings were asked to turn his mobile off around the ring,as some of the dogs are being trained to standto the ring of a mobile,as this was still classed as double handling, and the last two open shows we have been to there has been large notices saying all mobile phones to be switched off near ringside,
we put our phones on vibrate now when we go into the shows.

The rule is that phones have to be turned off at crufts BUT few people do, just put the phone on scilent virbrate and keep it in their pockets and when someone phones you step away from the ring.

Also with BOB you will tend to find many people have permission before hand and are taking it for club newsletters, websites, etc and the owners own personal use.  Aswell as sometimes puppy owners taking pictures of their pups mum and dad.

I was going to ask the camera question a bit nearer the time .As for which car to take it depends on what you are planing to buy,I went in a mondeo last year and my boot was full of goodies and not just for the dogs.My next question is what time do you have to leave the show ? I left at 5pm last year because i had a 2 1/2 hr drive home but this time i have accomodation ,so i can stay a bit longer.
I'm getting excited already, how do you people that are showing keep calm?

Is it true you cant remove your dogs til 4pm??
- By Brainless [gb] Date 21.01.04 10:47 UTC
Yes until 2 years ago it was 5pm, and before that years ago later than that.  The main reason is that the public pay to come and see the dogs, sot here should be dogs there to see for a reasonable length of time, otherwise at least half of them would be gone by lunchtime.

Since the advent of Discover dogs the Kennel Club relented and allow earlier leaving at 4pm as people can see the dogs on the Discover Dogs benches.

God I will never keep Gus amused all that time . He hates going into his crate at shows too for some reason . We're going to be in for a long day then
Can you walk around the stalls with your dogs or do they have to be kept crated?
- By Brainless [gb] Date 21.01.04 11:15 UTC
Officially at benched shows dogs have to be kept on their benches unless being excersised on groomed (or being exhibited of course), and then only for is it 15 minutes??? (can't remember the exact ruling).  In practice unless an official came to your bench and starteed timing you people take their dogs for a wander as and when they want. :D
- By lel [gb] Date 21.01.04 11:18 UTC
Me and other half will have to take it in 15 minute turns then - or keep changing clothes so the official doesnt recognise us ;)
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 21.01.04 12:33 UTC
Your other half will look a picture in your clothes!! ;)
- By lel [gb] Date 21.01.04 15:02 UTC

Hi Ice Queen,  Actually was speaking As an owner.  We no longer try to get any pics at this point (when we are lucky enough to get BOB of course).  the dogs are so surrounded by photographers, some dog press (UK & International) but a whole load of just regular people.  We dont have a news letter in the breed, and most are faces I have never seen before so I dont think they have our pups!  A lot are visitors from overseas, but never been able to work out who the rest are!

As far as taking your dogs for a walk round the show I found that last year it was the last thing I wanted to do...FAR too crowded!!Was hard enough moving around myself never mind with a dog
