Hi,

My lil' girl who's 4 1/2 years old was spayed today........poor little mite.  She is at home and feeling very down.  I expect that after such a nasty operation.  My question is that she seems to be whining and whimpering a lot and me being the worried mum and all, I am just concerned for her.  I take it this is normal after the operation?  She will be sleeping in our bedroom tonight so I can keep an eye on her through the night.  I am just looking for reassurance I suppose.  She is my little baby and I feel like the big ogre who took her to the vets and now she is in pain.  I won't be able to sleep now tonight......I hope she is ok.

She may be in pain and uncomfortable, has she had any pain control. Would expect her to feel a bit better this morning, how she does.

Hi Charlene,

I am sure your girl is okay.  I am sure she is sore and most likely not herself from the remaining anesthetic in her bloodstream.

She should be improved tomorrow, but don't expect a lot for a couple of days.  The older they are when spayed the more they tend to show discomfort.  I suppose they do not have all the adrenalin of youngsters and so tend to think more about the affects of surgery.

Hi,

Thanks you guys for your reassurance.  She had an uncomfortable night.  She slept by my feet on the bed but I didn't get much sleep.  She is currently laying by the balcony door.  She hasn't even been out to the toilet this morning.  I don't want to disturb her.  I hate seeing her this way.  She is normally such a happy little thing.  She hasn't had much to drink since being back home.  The only way she will drink is if I cup water in my hand.  I know spaying is a routine operation but it's horrible for her.

Sorry to keep on.......in 4 and a half years, she has never been ill before so seeing her like this is a bit shocking for me.

Thanks again,

Charlene
