I have just returned from walking my two dogs and whilst out I met a man with his staff bitch.  This man's bitch was probably about 4 or 5 years old and her teats were massive.Being curious I asked the man if his bitch was in pup and he said no she had always been like that since they have had her.  Apprently he bought her from a farm as an adult dog.  He assured me that the vet has said that there is no problem with her.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me why a bitches teats would get so enlarged and stay that way permenantly?

probably from being bred a lot, maybe without the reccomended breaks between seasons. the mammary tissue will have become stretched from suckling pups and propably not given the chance to return to normal. that would be my guess anyway!

Before i had my collie bitch spayed she had big nipples[never had a litter] when i had her spayed at 3 1/2yrs they shrunk. not that you could see cos shes very hairy!

It seems to depend on the bitch. Maybe she has had bad phantoms? I know an 8-year old bitch, never had a litter, with very large nipples. My bitch, who has had two litters, has barely visible nipples. Her maiden daughter (aged 9) is smooth-chested too.
