I was wondering if anybody has heard of the Dreamcoat affix?  My GSD has Dreamcoat in her pedigree, 2 years ago I asked a breeder for some advice regarding behavioural problems I was experiencing with my GSD.  She asked for some details regarding my dog's pedigree and when I mentioned the Dreamcoat affix she said that this was basically a glorified puppy farm and the dogs under this affix were not of the best temprement.  I have looked on the net since then to see if I can find any reference to Dreamcoat but so far have not found anything.  I was just wondering if anybody can tell me anything. :-)
Thanks Freya

Thanks for that Melodysk, I'm quite new to the forum (and a bit thick :-D) and didn't think to look on the search option.  Oh dear, doesn't look like a very good ancestry for my girl.  Thanks for the response.

The forum can be a bit daunting to newcomers but most people here will help if they possibly can :)

Hi

I dont know if they are still breeding but i rescued my gsd more than 12 years ago and i had suspicians that she was a dreamcoat dog, i actually spoke to the breeder who at the time lived in north london, she has been a great dog and is still going but she could be a little temperamental when it came to some things, she never has liked being brushed although she is very long coated and would usually bite you if she had had enough, and if she didnt want to do something at dog training she would get stroppy then, but other than that has been as good as gold, she was rescued when she was 7 months old she had been beaten and starved, i have seen other Dreamcoat dogs and they have been of a nervous type but then it does depend on how they have been brought up and socialised as puppys and young dogs.

Hi

Just to let you know that I think that Dreamcoat are still up and runnign but on a much smaller scale.  I believe something happened and the breeder decided to cut back and as such has sold / rehomed some of his breeding bitches.  My Mum and Dad rescued one from a local shelter.  The breeder was located Godalming way I believe.  Feel free to pm me for more info.

I get the KC stud book supplement & their breeding doesn't seem to have dimished at all. I can remember reading that they did not have a LA licence or that it was revoked

I got interested as they managed to get hold of one of my imports grand puppies to use at stud(he was not a long coat & had good hips, he caried the black gene which is why the acquired him)

Also the published Hip Scores are not very good either

Cree has not got the best hips.  She has never shown any discomfort but sometimes when she walks she makes a clicking/popping
noise.  I have had her x-rayed and the vet has confirmed that she does have a hip problem.  Also we have had some behavioural
problems, she is quite nervous of people but is a bully with other dogs and is barky.  It was when she was around 1 year old that
I went to Crufts to see if I could get any advice from the GSD stand at discover dogs and this was were her pedigree history was
brought up.  When I mentioned to the breed advisor that Cree was a black long-haired GSD she asked me about her pedigree and
when I said Dreamcoat she said straight away that she was badly bred and this would be the route of the behavioural problems.
I didn't know anything about the affix before this and, as mentioned in my first posting I had tried looking on the net but had not
been able to come up with much.  You've shed some light on this for me.
Thanks Freya :-)

A friend of ours brought a puppy from them and it attacked the tiny dog in the house in its second week there and the breeder was aggesstive when asked to take the puppy back. And was really nasty. The dog was taken to battersea. I was wondering if they are still going now? As this post is some time ago.
