DO THE DOGS GO NASTY AFTER 2YEARS
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 19.01.04 10:16 UTC
Sorry guest don't know what you mean, why not join and explain.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 19.01.04 10:16 UTC
Which dogs, guest?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 19.01.04 11:49 UTC
JG what do you think the guest means - un-groomed - un-disciplined - aggressive - sickly - un-friendly or perhaps smelly.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 19.01.04 12:53 UTC
Probably aggressive, Jackie - but which dogs, and under what circumstances might they turn nasty? And why at 2 years old?
- By Kerioak Date 19.01.04 13:35 UTC
Might be the Dobes whose brains are said to grow too big for their heads and they turn on their owners before exploding - this must be true cos ( :D )I think there is still a story about it on the Urban Myths site
- By Poodlebabe [gb] Date 19.01.04 17:07 UTC
I've heard of several puppy farm dogs that go 'funny' usually aggressive at the 18 month to 2 year stage so maybe that is what Guest is refering to?

Who knows Jesse, never heard anything like that and farm dogs are often not that friendly anyway not being house pets. If it is aggression that is meant it is a very wide all-embracing statement and think the poster must have been misinformed about something or just misunderstood. We will never know unless the guest joins and puts us out of our confusion

Jesse
I have a dog from a breeder who is classed as a puppy farmer by some people.
What differance does age make?

Sorry, the silly sod that I am read that as Farm Dogs not Puppy Farm Dogs, so ignore the last post and I will start again. If you buy a pup from a puppy farm or a wholesale outlet it is a gamble. As puppy farmers breed from any bitch or dog that comes their way, with no or little consideration as to it's fitness to be bred from; the whole business is a lottery. Your pup may be a good example of the breed, fit and of good temperament or the antithesis; trouble is there is no way you are going to know. As for a dog, however badly bred, suddenly at 2 years old exploding into a firebrand is a very strange idea, if a dog is going to be a problem it will start as it begins to mature about 5 or 6 months in most cases. Unless the bad temper is caused by some sort of sickness.

Not sure but most were oflarger later maturing breeds so it could be around adolecence. However, as Jacki says there usually is signs before that that things are going a miss so maybe people don't notice if it is a gradual thing?
I wouldn't worry too much There are many many dogs out there from puppy farms that are ok!!Didn't mean to worry you!

Yes, they do turn and kill their owners at 2 years old. That's why it's always advisable to never let them know how old they are!

What utter nonsense!

Abused dogs, of any breed, size, color or shape can turn on any one abusing them. However, more often dogs forgive the abuser no matter how often or severe. Dogs are a product of environment and genetics (nuture and nature). Genetics limit how good a dog can be (i.e., poor genetics may see an animal not reach the overall breed's potential) whereas Environment limits how bad a dog can be (i.e., poor genetics with good training, and love).

Dobermans are a loving and gentle breed that defend their home and family (pack) with utter devotion. Nearly any Doberman owner would trust their lives quicker to this animal than to nearly any human. Think you can't buy love? Buy a dog. Specifically a Doberman. You will never have to go to the bathroom alone again.

I watched a show the other day on Animal Planet regarding the trend in the U.S at the moment of people owning wolves or wolf-dogs(wolf X) These dogs are fine and friendly up until they reach maturity at the age of between 18mths and 2 years, then they start to turn, they start becoming aggressive, hand shy and volatile, much like they would be if they were in the wild, this is the age when the owners usually surrender them to "wolf rescue"~there was a rescue organisation specifically set up for pet wolves~
They say that people will never be able to breed the wild wolf out of them,i dont understand why they would want to anyway      You should have seen the majority of the owners giving these poor dogs/wolves up,they were the typical "tough guys" who wanted a "tough dog" to make them look cool   eejits!!
