hey everyone

my 14week old westhighland terrier keeps doing "strange" things, any help and advice on these probs would be great

1) he keeps eating mud, any kind wet/dry/one with bits in (stones, grass, plants)

2)he sits in his wee/poo after hes done it, occasionally he will do the backleg kicking thing to cover the poo but rest  of time he will sit in it only for a few seconds and then get up.

maybe its normal puppy behavior but nay help would be great
thanku

What are you feeding him on? maybe it is lacking in some mineral?some  puppies do eat evreything but is he targetig soil in particalar?

2nd question!dirty little sod!be quick to call him after hes finished

1) Sounds pretty normal - dogs explore with their mouths, but if you don't want him to do it then call him away and give him something else to play with.

2) Might be worth getting his back legs/back checked as there may be some weakness.  If not them keep infront of him and encourage him to move forwards towards you as soon as he's finished.

hey thankyou for replies....
i dont think he has a weakness in his backlegs, i think he likes to be dirty, because hates being dried with a towel, he hates being brushed, he hates everything to do with deing clean, including baths, theres been no probs today with him sitting in wee/poo cause as soon as hes done iv called him with treats in my hand and hes straight up to me.

he does like mud in particular but hes also eating grass and plants too!!
i think he maybe just mischeivious!! (if thats how its spelt!!)

LOL Summer baskets,  when you do the outdoor summer pots and baskets with the summer/bedding plants. As soon as a westie sees them , they did them out LOL..

My lot or at least 2 of them would did and roll in the mud 24 hours a day if I let them..

Pam is totally right about the garden Laura!

We bought my parents house when they moved to Cornwall.  Only working part-time their garden was immaculate - the talk of the close.  You should see it now!  I can see my mum almost pale when she comes to visit and sees the strewn plants and holes everywhere!

I have to say Molly is very helpful at dead-heading the flowers (except they're not dead!) LOL.

What gets me is the way she comes running in like a child caught eating chocolate cake - white beard and paws absolutely covered in mud, bits of plant hanging from her mouth - and looks at you as if butter wouldn't melt.  I'm sure she'd blame the cat if she could.

One word of warning though, Molly has had two tummy upsets from eating stuff in the garden - first a plant and then a slug!  Cost us about £30 in anti-biotics, so we have to be extra careful.  Doesn't stop her though!!
