hi people, not happy my bitch bullmastiff was rushed to vets tonight with a prolapse vagina its her first season and was not looking great at all, as i type this my poor girl is in the vets awaiting an op, has any one else had this problem, and will it stop her chances of having pups in the future. if the vet detects infection then i will ask him to spay her, i want a happy dog not a ill one, what a great start she is only 7 months and having to go through this, fingers crossed she is ok x

Hi
Sorry to hear about your girl. I can't offer any help but I wanted to give my best wishes. I have a girl in her first season at the moment. I've never heard of a vaginal prolapse. What are the symptoms? I don't know. I've had two children and I don't think it was anything like as traumatic as having dogs :) Good Luck with your girl.

hi thanks for all your kind words,
maisie is back home now, the way her vagina looks is like describing a pear in size and shape, pink in colour sticking out her vagina, known as vaginal prolaspe or vaginal oedema, the vets have decided that it is vaginal oedema and want to spay her but she is still in season and bleeding, they have told me to wait for eight days and return to get her spayed, they were talking about an hormone inbalancement but how would they know that for sure with out taking bloods and sending to see if this is the case with my bitch, im all over the show at the min, as i dont know what to do, im not questioning that i might have to get her spayed but i really need to get a second opinion, the vets have now decided that there is nothing they can do for her surgically and that i have to put an oniment on it, and lots of tablets, its commonly known to happen in cattle and large bread dogs such as mine , there is treatment avalible but 50/ 50 chanceof it working.
if any one has had this happen to them, please let me know what you did? and for those concerned dont worry its very rare.

Hi annieee
My breeder saw her on friday and said she was turned out still ,meaning she hadnt shrunk back enough , her teets look just like her mothers who has only had 1 litter ,they are swollen at her chest area and saggy at the back . but in her self she is well and there are no other problems .
This is my first bitch and i thought her vagina was ok but the teets wasnt so after my breeder saw her i rang the vets and we are there tomorrow.I will let you know 2morrow the outcome.
I have tried not to worry too much but every time i look at her i know its not right.
Ella.x.
Hi annieee
It is just hormonal swelling in the teets but her glands are swollen and she has a slight discharge from her vagina so we came home from the vets with antibiotics .I thought she was well but vet said shes probably picked up an infection and is feeling a bit under the weather. Its the protein in her food thats making her lively thats why i didnt know ,she should be back to normal in a week or so .
Trust your instinct and go with it

hi karen,
i got some more advice and her prolapse went even bigger and started to get infected, i could not take any more, so i got Rob to demand to see the vet. the one i like, and communicates better with you. to see her tonight. he saw her straight away and he has told me that he is going to amputate it, thank god for that!!!!! she could not sit or lie down because how big it was getting now i have to wait and see.
im not spaying her as there could be a good chance after the op it will not ever get as big as that again but im going to give her a chance, it could be a one off thing with her hormones, the vets seems to think she be ok after, so all fingers toes crossed
luv suzi
