Been to our local conservative club this afternoon and took Toby with us, had an argument with some prat, Toby is a pedigree black lab but he has got a white patch on his chest , so this prat told me no no no he cant be pedigree with a white patch he must have collie in him, i told him i would show him the papers and that i saw both mother and father, he said that dont mean anything somewhere along the line he has border collie in him, i told him it didnt matter what ever at the end of the day he is not for breeding he is purely a very loved pet and if  he wasnt pedigree it wouldnt matter anyway,

There is nothing worse than the 'pub expert'
Just ignore them, they'll soon find another subject to pontificate (good word eh?) on :D

What you have to remember is that in a pub people have had one two many sometimes and it gives them the gift of the gab, and sometimes people love the sound of their own voices.

Take no notice, he's your boy you love him and they don't know twiddly poo!!!!

You swallowed a dictionary Liberty!!!! :-D :-D

Don't worry Heidi, the Labrador Breed Standard states quite clearly that a small white spot on the chest is permissible.

Don't worry Heidi, my Lucy had a white spot and she was a pedigree as you get!

Best wishes, John

Thankyou, knew i could count on you all to cheer me up, this person has not even got a dog, but he is one of those people that knows everything, or so he thinks ;)
Toby is my pride and joy and this is the first person that has said anything negative about Toby, i admit i went on the defensive but my children and Toby are my life,

My black lab also has a white spot on this chest and he's definately all lab!  He also has a few silver hairs between the pads of his paws.  I can't remember where I heard it and have no idea whether it's true, but was told that this could be traced back to one particular labrador.
I'd just ignore it - I've learnt the hard way that sometimes people just sound like they know what they're talking about!
I'm sure he's gorgeous - aren't all labs gorgeous?
best wishes, Jenny

I shouldn't get too irate.  As long as you know better let them wallow in their ignorance.

I get this sort of thing all the time. My border collie is not a pedigree as her father was a working sheepdog, but both were border collies, so she is purebred. (and a border collie in every way behaviourally!!!) However because she is a short haired border collie everyone insists that she is a cross breed. A certain instructor of mine keeps calling her "little cross breed" which whilst there is nothing wrong cross breeds, she is not one! Some people just think they know better sometimes.

I was told once by a lab breeder that there is a particular pure-bred line that does produce white patches sometimes.  She did tell me which one, but I can't remember.

What a prat! don't you just hate those people! anyway my yellow lab has got a couple of black hairs ha ha and he is Poolstead through and through.  Must be a touch of his dad in him.  All labradors are gorgeous anyway!

I was told that the white patches were called the Sandringham Crest - not sure if that is right or someone spouting rubbish, my black lab had a white patch behind each front paw.
