Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / problems with boxers

does anyone know of a problem with boxers when they stare at something for a long time, 20 minutes at a time sometimes, and eventually start getting tender areas arround the front of the head? I've never heard of anything like it but a vet has said that it is common in boxers!! This dog keeps staring at the cat, it doesn't attack and in fact they both curl up together sometimes but on occassions it stares at the cat and unless the cat is taken out of the room the dog continues to stare at it for ages. This is the second time that the dog has had to be taken to the vet and put on anti biotics for a week but the dog is very miserable so any suggestions would be gratefully received.

I'm no expert, but that sounds a bit like a seizure to me. But as i say, i'm no vet and have no experience of this so hopefully someone will come a long and help.

I have heard of dogs (not just Boxers) staring, almost mesmerized, at things but I don't understand what you mean by "getting tender areas around the head"?

If your dog is miserable and the antibiotics are not helping and your vet cannot come up with a definite diagnosis of the problem I would be seeking a second opinion.

I've been around Boxers 15 years or so and have never heard about this before!

However that said I know the litter sister to my veteran (now sadly departed) used
to press her head against the wall and stand in the corner of a room.
It turns out that she had a brain tumour (I'm not saying that this is what the problem is with the dog
in question though). She was 8 1/2 years old when they lost her.

My own dog sometimes stares at my cats but that is jealousy as she
hates for anyone to have more fuss than her.
She doesn't go tender around her head etc.

I'd ask the vet to do further tests.
