Hi Has anyone had puppies with anasarca known as water babies or walrus puppies, they occur more in Bulldogs and flat faced breeds for some reason. I have a bulldog which has had 2 litters of these babies and it is quite hard to research this. I have looked on the net tonight and have found out that it could be the diet that causes it and that puppies mildly to medium affected can be saved by treating with diuretics. I am extra upset tonight as the last litter all had it and the vet removed them and just 'threw' them in a bucket off of the table, I have read tonight that they are actually born alive. I brought one home which was slightly affected but it died 12 hours later, I'm upset to think that a simple treatment would have saved it! Researching tonight, the people who have had these puppies and saved them have found them to live a healthy life. I would like to get as much info as possible on this condition as I know people with this breed and it may help in the future

Thanks everyone for your help. I can't help thinking about it, the vet said she hadn't seen this problem before, I feel so guilty that the one I brought home would have been fine if it had been treated. All I keep picturing is them puppies being 'thrown' it turns my stomach. I am going to look at the links you gave me thanks so much :)
