at present i do not own a dog but had a rottie for 8 years. i am intending on buying one in the future and would be interested in getting involved in shows - obviously at present i know very little about showing but i am eager to learn. i was told to attend the manchester show on friday but must admit i am a little concerned about how i will be received - will owners think i am mad if i approach them to ask advice? obviously i need the help of seasoned showers to make sure that i know what is involved.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, people will not think your mad, go along and enjoy the day, watch the dogs and see which lines you like, then go and talk to the people that have them. When people ring me about bullmastiffs, i encourage them to come and see us at home and at shows.
I'm sure the rottie people are just the same. If you do go, to the show on Friday, come and say hi to us too. (i'll be with the bullies my name is Karen Johnson - dog is Tartuffe Solero of Luconervar).
Karen.

thanks karen, i am really looking forward to friday. it has been 3 years since i have had a dog (due to work committments) so i am really excited about the prospect of welcoming a new dog into the house. will come and say hello if i see you. good luck with Tartuffe.

As l9ong as you don't try and aproach some-one just as they are about to go in the irng then you should be warmly welcomed for your interest.  Just introduce yourself to someone who doesn't look busy and ask them to introduce you to someone that can give you advice.  Good luck :D

Beware once you get an enthusiast talking about their favourite breed you may find it hard to get away!!!

Yep, sorry Barbara, did not realise that could be upsetting, it was only meant in affection.

Hello

I am there on Friday with my rottie (Disney)
the best thing is to chat near the benches as opposed to near the ring
in case they are just going in.
Was you the guest that was emailing the other day by any chance?
Judging starts at 9.00am and off the top
of my head I think there are 202 rotties entered :-0

hi carolyn, yes i was the person emailing the other day. i am definately going to go on friday - i am really looking forward to it. if i see you is it ok if i pop over for a chat.

Mel

just looked at your email address - i have been on your site quite a lot over the past few days - i have even bored the hubby to tears making him look at the pictures!!! have had a look at disney (she is a cutie). good luck on friday

Cause you can come over
if Disney doesnt put you off having a rottie then nothing will ;-)
We are in puppy bitch so if you ask someone will point me out (hopefully)

May be worth joining the breed club you tend to get good advice through the members etc.

Just also thinking if you go along to the show and buy the catalogue you will find a lot of breeders listed in their with their entry, some withhold their details but a lot don't. Most don't mind a call.

Good luck.

if your serious about showing go for a breeder thats consistant in producing winning dogs, -not just an odd placement here and there, its a very hard breed to do big winning in,  so try for the best you can get, ---- if you get someone telling you there winning all sorts etc, theyd be well known, and its easily checked up on, ---good luck, hope you find something you like,.

Hi
I was in your position this time last year. I went to numerous champ shows up and down the country. I really enjoyed it. I spoke to loads of breeders and owners and found 99% of them very helpful.  Anyway, six months later I had my own girl (DObe). I can honestly say I enjoyed it all and found everybody helpful. If they didn't have puppies, they would tell me if they were going to have any soon and they would let me know who did have puppies.

My only bad experience was when one person was very helpful before I got my pup. Afterwards, she would barely give me the time of day because I didn't get one of hers from a planned future litter. I am back at shows now. I haven't shown my girl yet but hope to soon. I went to a show recently and met the 'Sire' of my girl. The owner was very helpful, she gave me lots of tips and even said she would go in the ring with her if I bottled out at her first show!!

Good Luck

:) Annieee :)
