Claire came home tonight with her homework. She had to find words ending in 'shun' sounds. You know, like 'persian' or 'elation'. These were easy.
Then we came to words ending '...cian.' Do you think I could remeber any? NO. I eventually came up with Politician and Magician, but it took me ages.
So how many can you think of? No dictionaries please :D
She only needed two thank god.

Musician, technician, beautician think thats it at the moment :) Gillian

They do do sums earl but believe me my daughter is 10 and when she asks for help I often enlist the help of my 16 yr old who is currently studying for GCSE's, I don't consider myself dense enough to need extra learning but I'm certainly lost with some of the things she wants to know in respect of both Maths and English. I'm sure school wasn't that hard when I was there mind you it was many moons ago now!

Definition !

Im blonde ........ I cant think of long words like that :D :D
Electrician= Tradesman who always says he`ll be there at 10am but doesn`t say which day, then turns up hours late anyway. Or if it`s an emergency you have he`s already out on another emergency, in which case expect him when you see him!

Christine, Spain.

Apparantly (as you can see from the answers you already have) the ending of -cian is usual for tradesmen ;)

So the first ones that came to my mind were Plumber, Carpenter, Plasterer, Decorater, Roofer, Scaffolder, Butcher , Baker - :( I can only immediately think of "er's" for tradesmen
But isn't 'er' the tradesman's first words? :D followed by ' it'll cost-a-lot!'
When you actually think about it there aren't too many words ending in 'cian'. Now I've had time to think I don't think Claire would know the meaning of most of them. That what why I came up with the two I did use. I mean, everyone knows what a politician is don't they (no comments, please

) And a magician is also commonly used but some of the others? Claire's blank look says everything. ;)

Musician , politician .....electrician ....
:)
Electrician....hmm....better not tell my dad I forgot that - he was an electrician. As was my first husband, my brother, my uncle, my cousin............. :o
I had to laugh at Lindylou :D and her first husband, brother, uncle, cousin - would you say yours was a close family? :D
