Hi
We just got our new pup on Sunday and she has started barking at us for no reason.  If we keep saying no she just does it more.  Has anyone got any ideas how to stop this?

Sounds like a very precocious pup - how old is he?
It sounds as if he's doing it for attention - and by saying 'no' you're giving him what he wants, try ignoring it and rewarding him when he's quiet.  But make sure he's not doing it because he needs to go out to the toilet.........

She is around 13/14 weeks old.  We got her from a girl that was pregnant and she got her from a rescue pound centre and had her for abut 4 weeks.
She has been really great at everything barr the barking.  The toilet training is excellent.  I have tried ignoring her but the cheeky monkey just barks even more.  She has started the biting hands stage as well.
She is sitting on my knee while I type this watching the screen and giving me kisses so she is not all bad. :-)

OK - this is the typical stage for puppies to go through a 'fear period' and this often results in barking, but I get the feeling we're not talking about a fearful pup here (a scared dog will go backwards as it barks - does this pup do that?) I'd say it's more likely to be behaviour she's learnt is good for getting her attention - and ignoring will extinguish the behaviour, eventually.........  However, before she learns that barking does NOT get her what she wants, she will increase the amount of barking (it's worked before, and if it's not working now then maybe we need more is what she'll be thinking ;)) Stick with the ignoring (and this must mean TOTALLY ignoring - not looking at her, not telling her to do something else, treat her as if she's not there UNTIL she stops barking, and to start with that might be for the briefest period, then try and take the opportunity to praise her and fuss her - as soon as the noise starts again, you stop!)

She sounds lovely! what breed is she?
One of my collies Nellie is much more vocal than my other two. if she barks & i say no she just answers back,so dont keep saying no to your puppy or she may well get worse!
when shes quiet call her name ,give her a titbit or a little game with her toy.if she starts to bark at you say ssh & walk away,THEN as soon as shes quiet even for a minute call her to you and reward.
try not to reward her in anyway if she is noisey.she sounds like shes just feeling her feet!

She is a border terrier cross.  The saying no definately doesn't work as she just keeps doing bad things even more.
We have tried ignoring her when we walk in the room today and so far she hasnt jumped up as much.  Then when she barks and annoys us we turn our back on her and ignore her which seems to be working so far.
Just need to sort out the playbiting now.
