Hello again. I picked up my very beautiful border terrier pup last Sunday when she was 8 weeks old. She is being crate trained but only goes in her crate when I drop and pick my daughter up from school ie. 35 minutes maximum morning and afternoon. She then goes to bed at 11.30pm after toileting. We then set our alarm for 2.00am and get her up to toilet and again at 4.00am. She finally comes out of her crate at 6.30am when my husband gets up. The trouble is she doesn't seem to mind soiling her crate with wee and poo and last night managed to poo and wee in the crate between 2.00am and 4.00am without waking us up. She has access to water throughout the night and we have also put a large box in the crate to limit the space she has to section off as a toilet but she still does not seem to mind soiling her bed at all. Her crate is in the hall right outside our bedroom (we live in a flat) so she is being paper trained in kitchen. The trouble with having her crate where it is, is that she does not get used to seeing it except when I go out to school or at nightime. Today I have placed the crate in the lounge with the door open to see if she wants to sleep in it but she's not ineterested.I was wondering if there was anything else I could to try to prevent her from soiling her bed.Any advice would be gratefully received. /// This is a follow up to my post above. I was having a successful morning having managed tto get Pup to paper for 2 wees this morning. The crate was going well to and I had enticed pup into it with door open at all time with cheese and her toys. She then strode purposely over to it and weed! I took towell and replace it. I also took her toys away for 5 mins to show my disapproval (don't know if this is recommnded?) and I thought she was looking for them but oh no, she wanted to poo in her crate. So it seems she now thinks the crate is a toilet. Can anyone give me any advice as to how to prevent this? many thanks. Help of all sorts gratefully received

make sure to disinfect the crate thouroghly so that the smell doesn't trigger another accident. Also, unlike some of the others on the board, I don't put water in my pups crate at night. They go to bed late and up early, I don't feel that it is needed for that amount of sleep time----just my opinion. Be consistent, even when you have set backs. Check out Purina.com for great crate training tips. Good luck!

Hello Bumblebeeacres, thank you so much for your reply. I was beginning to dispair a little as we had another night of poo and wee even though we got up at 2.00 and 4.00 as usual. It's nice to know that others are going/have gone through the same thing. I do disinfect the crate each time and will definatlely try her without water this evening and see what happens. Thanks again and if anyone has any other helpful tips, I would be most grateful. I will check out purina.com now.
