Hi all. Im new to this board. Im looking for some help. I recently got this dog from a friend. She had pups in October. She is still bleeding from her vulva. I asked my friend about how long this was going on. She said that when the dog had her pups, she did the normal bleeding thing. But, she still is bleeding. Some days not noticable, other days, it is noticable. She is over-weight, will this have anything to do with it? Can someone please give me ideas on what this could be. Will be taking her to the vet next week. Thanks in advance!

Please take her to the vet as soon as possible, she could have a very serious infection. When you say blood, do you mean bright red blood or a brownish discharge?  Either way, she needs to see a vet.

It could be that she has come back into season again but best get to the vet to check.

yes, that's why I asked about the colour. She could be in season again & you only see it occasionally because she's cleaning herself. Take her to the vet to make sure though. don't think her weight has any bearing, but try to get it off her anyway as it won't do her health any good.

brie bleeded after her litter last year bright red but not alot just a wipe of a tissue then it was gone,there is a condition the bitch can get this but i forgot then name,but it dose go after she has her first season after the litter which it did in bries case,

have your vet check it out but a red blood discharge is common for some time after whelping. If the colour is greenish after whelping it can be a sign of problems, retained afterbirth etc and your vet will usually inject hormone to stimulate more contractions, but it sounds like your bitch just has a blood discharge. best get it checked out if you are worried. my motto is "if in doubt, call the vet out!"

Yes, a reddish discharge is perfectly normal for some weeks after whelping (just as it is with people) but it shouldn't be bright red after the first week or so. To still be bright red fresh blood following a whelping in October implies either she is back in season or there is something wrong. Get her vet-checked.

My bitch had her pups 6 weeks ago.  She's been fine.  Yesterday she's bleeding like she usually does when she is in heat.  Can it be possible?  Her last heat was at the end of Sept.  She had the pups the beginning of Dec.  Can she be in heat already?  Should I be concerned?

There is a condition called subinvolution of the placental sites, when the bitch will carry on bleeding right up to the next season - I had it once in a Kerry Blue of mine.   Bit of a nuisance, but the male dogs seemed to know the difference, and didn't pester her.   I suppose it could lead to a sort of anaemia if the bleeding is heavy.

Be best to check it out with your vet, however.
