My friends husband is allergic to dogs but they would like to get one so the obvious choice would be a breed that doesn't shed.  So what choices are there?

First thing is to find out what the gent is allergic to, most people are not effected by hair but rather by the detritions (dander) that comes from dead skin cells, we shed like this too but because dog have hair the debris is retained in some breeds and that causes a problem. If your friends decide which dogs they like then they could visit some breeders to see if that effected him.  Some manage best with dogs that don't shed others find dogs with a double coat is best. Hope they find something to suit.

Don't forget  chinese crested dogs hairless and powderpuff my mother-in-law is allergic to a lot of dogs but isn't alergic to my powderpuff which is a good job as she's my dog sitter.

My step nan has really bad asthma, which is affected by cats and dogs.  But she used to have a poodle and it caused no problems.
