another thing.. i was told when i got beau spayed that she would gain weight. when i took her in last, she weighed about 73 pounds. I was told that normal weight for a female lab is between 60 and 68 pounds. I am just gonna say that she probably weighs about 75 or 76 pounds now. Is this bad? She excercises ALL day. She has a lot of muscle that you can see when you look at her, but is it bad to be that much over weight? After reading the other post...thought i should ask.

It is not inevitable that speyed bitches will gain weight. It is true that it generally slows the metabolic rate but as you are in charge of the food bowl just feed a bit less. Average weights are just that, averages, all animals are individuals and have different heights, bone structure etc. You should judge by hand and eye not the scale; if you cannot feel her ribs she is overweight.
As for her ears, she could have ear mites, a grass seed or an allergy; best go and let the vet have a look.
