My breeder called me yesterday to tell me that her bitch needed an emergency c-section. The vet gave her two oxytosin shots and nothing, there was a ridge inside so the puppies head could not pass (boston terriers are known for sections due to puppies big heads and bitches narrow pelvic). The vet left 2 placentas in the bitch because she said that she didn't want to stress the uterus any more then what it all ready was. Is this common to leave them in like that, could it cause an infection? The bitch is also on Batril twice a day. I was wondering leaving them in does this cause the bitch to have contractions to help push them out which would also help with her milk supply (doesn't contractions help bring on the milk)? I guess the vet said that she had twin spots on her uterus, what is that? I have never heard of that before and I think that is what she called it. This was the bitches first litter and she had 3 beautifully marked male puppies and pretty big for a boston pup, I think the smallest weighed 12 onces. Due to these twin spots and section my breeder will not breed from her again, she's just very thankful that the puppies are all healthy and mom is doing great.

Thats all she was told...I never heard of it before either...maybe could it mean that her uterus was thin in some spots and the vet just used these words instead?

I have never heard of twin spots and I work for a reproductive veterinarian.( I thin this vet is smoking something, lol) I even did a yahoo search and found nothing.
As far as leaving the placentas in...THAT IS JUST CRAZY! I'd like to know where this vet got his license to practice...granted she could pass them on her own but what if she doesn't...MAJOR infections are coming her way...and if its not properly taken care of she may need to be spayed anyhow.
I would say your breeder should go to another vet for another opionion

I haven't been able to get a hold of my breeder...I was thinking that was wierd too...Hopefully I'll get a hold of her this weekend :)

Good God !!! Leaving placentas in???? what on earth is this vet on ???? That's the surest way to get a massive infection going !!!!!
