Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Can first season be a silent season?
- By new breeder [gb] Date 12.01.04 19:00 UTC
I was up at my Nan's house today with the dogs and my Aunty had her 14 year old lab there (Bless!).

Well, in the afternoon he started to pay ALOT of attention to Kira (6 months old, not had first season yet).  He actually tried to mount her on several occasions and she was standing for him and presenting herself :o

Now, there have been absolutely no signs of a season from her and Oscar (my entire male) has paid no interest to her what so ever.

Is she just a hussey (;D) or do you think her first season could be a silent season  ???

My girl had a "silent" first season, no blood etc, but she did swell .

Not on topic at all, but I was wondering where you got the name Kira?  My 7 month old is Kirra.

I just read another post by someone who's puppy is Kira.  She says it means "beautiful black lady."  My little girl was the prettiest puppy in the litter, (I'm not the only one that says so) and she is sleek and black.  It took forever to name her.  6 names later, I thought Kirra suited her.

Isn't it strange all these spellings of the same name-Our puppy was a vivid red though,Sandra.

I got the name Kira from an Irish babies names book, coz I fancied something Irish this time, don't know why? When I read it's meaning, I thought, Yes. She is a Beardie, most of which go through a natural paling stage in their coat, not getting their final coat (and colour) until they are 2 to 3 years old. The "slates" are ALL born black, but they can end up from a really light grey, through dark slate, to black (you can't tell what colour/shade a Beardie is going to end up). I hoped she was going to be a dark slate, and fortunately, at 17 months, some of her adult coat is through, and it's really dark slate (though she looks a bit of mixture overall at the moment). So, that's the story behind her name, and I have seen it spelt lots of different ways.

When I was trying to name this puppy, I looked on the intrnet for inspiration and I saw the name Kira  not knowing it's meaning and chose it it cause it had a lovely sound to it.

My Husband, however, says she's named after Leutenant Kira from Deep Space nine!!  So not true!!

It's a shame about the meaning cause my pup is RED.

I met a choccy lab last night called red. I'd love to know why.

While I was trying to come up with a name for my pup, I was asking people for their ideas.  Someone suggested the name Shakeria (the singer)  I said no way.  My bf then said, "why not Kira?"  I liked so that's what she became.  Then while I was in Maine this summer my bf bough a pair of shorts.  The brand was Kirra.  Thus her name was born.
